but she doesn't want me to spend anywhere near a grand.

Can anyone recommend some specs that I should look for to get a decent laptop for gaming and web-browsing? I want to get something that can handle Sims 3 and the newest Sims, but I don't want it to be completely obsolete when Sims 4 ever comes out.

Any suggestions?

The truth is, the Sims 3 series (meaning its spin-off Sims Medieval) actually use up more computing power than it should. I am blaming crappy optimization on the programmers' part because this game isn't Crysis or anything, so it should not use so much graphical power.

That being said, around $500 - 600 will get you a good enough laptop that can run this game smoothly (probably on Low - Medium settings since this game is a bit of a resource hog). And it will most likely get obsolete when Sims 4 comes out because of bad optimization of code from Maxis again.

Certain ones can, some have specially made parts. I know I bought a dell inspiron 1545 a while back (waste of $$$) that wasn't upgradeable. But I know for a fact most of them are at dell and hp.

What untill the AMD Llano APU launch sometime this month, it will actaully have good integrated graphics that you can game with so it will be a big revolution in mobile gaming. Plus it will make any other sub $1000 laptop seem like a calculator.
