well at high res's that cpu shouldn't be a bottleneck at all, unless gears is strangely cpu intensive unlike most other games which most arn't. but even so thats a decent cpu gears shouldn't be stuttering that much.yoyo462001
Actually, I don't have that monitor in my signature, so I'm not playing at 1920x1080, I have to update it. I'm using my 32" HDTV (1368x768). So, if I get the AMD Phenom 9600 Black Edition, I think that's the name of it. Will I be up-to-date for the next two years and no more stuttering in Gears?

wait for the phenom 9900 or just go for the 9600 and OC it, both will last 2 years easily.[QUOTE="yoyo462001"]well at high res's that cpu shouldn't be a bottleneck at all, unless gears is strangely cpu intensive unlike most other games which most arn't. but even so thats a decent cpu gears shouldn't be stuttering that much.ATLReppa770

Yeah that should fix the problem.

Yeah, and I think my motherboard is similar to yours. I have an 8800GT OC'ed card too along with the same RAM as you, except it's G. Skill. What resolution are you playing at? Also, does anyone know how much the Phenom's are retailing for? Thanks for the help!

Have you tried patching the game I think the patch fixes performance problems. I always patch the games before I play. so it might be the problems because I heard that the game's patch fixed studdering issues.
youre CPU should not be at 90% even for a x2 4200. Im sure you might have some other applications running. VIrus scanner? Logitech software? Anyways, if you feel like upgrading, then wait for the new B3 revisions coming from AMD soon here. The X4 9900 is what I would get or a Black Edition 9600. 9mmSpliff
The only other applications I have running is Gears of War. Nothing else. Also, yes, I've installed the patch, figures that it wouldn't fix ANY problems. Also, is the BE 9600 out? When does the X4 9900 come out? Is it much better than the Core 2 Duo's?
Many people have the stuttering issue including me. Only in single player though. Glad I bought it for the mp.

Then theirs the other issue with single player  http://forums.epicgames.com/search.php?searchid=2233581
Another stereotypical sloppy port.
i had studdering only when Vsync was on. By the way you have lots of things running on your PC, Im not talking about applications you have open like firefox or photoshop or anti virus.they have been delayed until Q2 they still need to fix the problems that they have been getting.
The Quad cores from AMD are not better than Intels offerings, infact the BE x2 6400 is the best CPU out from AMD right now for performance. But with the new AMD x4 revisions coming out, we will see it battle core 2 duo. Its supposed to get 10-30% gains from its problem.
The BE X4 9600 is out, its got an unlocked multi, like the FX series. But the new CPUs are just around teh corner from AMD and you wil see the x4 9900 then too.

i think there is three reasons for your issue :
(1)check your ram timing.
(2)check if there is a lot program running in the background like Norton anti virus or any thing.
(3)check your system maybe its full with spyware and Trojans (i had this issue when i format my PC it just gone)

This is a clean version of Windows Vista. There aren't ANY background applications running (WMP, I.E., Norton), I don't even have any anti-virus software installed. Also, I disabled the firewall and Windows Defender (if that makes any difference). My RAM timings are stock, unless they're factory OC'ed and I don't know it. As far as I know (AFAIK), the timings are: 4-4-5.
I thought the CPU should be running under pretty much full load if you're doing something strenuous like a game...Funkyhamster
My core 2 never goes above 50% on either core when playing crysis AND ripping a dvd at the same time.
