I have an Acer Aspire T180

Single Core CPU 2.2ghz

2GB RAM

and I need to upgrade that onboard gawd awful POS Geforce 6100 NForce 405... Yeesh...

I hear the 8800GT has very low power comsumptions. like 105 W comsumption.

Will it work as a mid-high rig?

I wouldn't risk it, nor would I bother using an 8800 card with a single-core processor. Something like the 7600GT would be a much safer bet for your system.

Generic PSU's can blow up and take other hardware out with it.

no idea how often it happens but ive heard of it quite alot, thats why i didnt skimp on mine.

If you can find it look up how many amps the card draws as well. PSU put out 3v, 5v, 12v(graphics cards use 12v) and so many amps to each voltage. A generic 300w psu will most likely brown out under that load. A good psu will run about 50-70 bucks and will be resuable if you decide to do an overhaul later. Mid-high will be doable with a 8800gt but your cpu will be lacking soon.

i think you have the sempron model the psu on the acer t180 is 250watts 300w is max rating and the answer is no you need a new psu u can get one for about £20 from ebuyer 550w / i would also recommend a new case because the 8800gt gets hot and ur case is micro atx

DONT spend £20 on a 550W psu, it will be a load of rubbish. Chances are it will blow up wihin a few months and take all you hardware with it. Really, really, dont skimp on the psu. Id recommend a decent 400-500W psu that costs about £40 or £50. Atleast then, you know youre getting quality.

Get a Thermaltake PurePower W0099RU 250-Watt Dual VGA Card-Dedicated Power Supply Unit for $50 and put two in sli (it will work!).

Don't waste your money on a costly PSU.

Hi i been searching in google ^^ i know this post is 1 month old, around

but i have a 300W also and i ordered evga 8800GT .

If you wait , i can let you know how it run.... if it runs well it wont last long enough! but imma buy a better PSU when i get the $.

I seen many with 350-W400 running 8800GT even OCed and they do fine.. i guess it depend on what u have on ur desktop.

some people has alotta HD , powerful RAMs , Processor OCed to high... which they need good PSU

but people like us with crappy stuff will be fine i guess lol

I can run 7900GS just fine which require +12v , 20 amps

while the 8800GT require +12v , 22 amps.. they close

but 8800GT is higher when load.. i will just away from big games like crysis etc :C
