Will a micro ATX mobo fit into a mid tower case?

Maybe a stupid question, I've just never done it. My friend is ordering a PC and wants to know if it'll be ok.

Go for ATX unless you are sure you won't be buying more components and yes it will fit. The case site should have details.

Most cases that can hold a standard ATX board have mounts for a micro-ATX board if the user so desires.

He's just on a low budget and there's a good cheap micro ATX that'll work fine. I doubt he'll need to add any more components anyway.
