I hope that AMD is still on schedule with its processors. They put out the HD 3850/70 on time, and that's hopefully a good sign. Has there been any change to the November 19th & 20th release date?

Take note that the last I heard of a release date for Phenom was in... July or June... it's been forever, so I might be a little behind the times.

Currently there are only 2 models, if you can afford to spend more money get the more expensive one

All older AMD cpu's should drop in price because of the phenoms.

"An unlocked, overclockable Black Edition 2.3-GHz Phenom will also be available later this year."

Eh, what? Does that mean the normal phenoms can't be overclocked or-- doesn't make sense, I guess.

Not higher power consumption... AnandTech messed up the power draw somehow...
They are pretty similar in terms of powerdraw.

Unfortunately that would mean Hexus and HotHardware messed up as well. Even if it uses verbatim power, that still indicates less performance per watt which is the opposite of what AMD was touting. This is a sad day for the industry and enthusiasts.

AMD has performance per watt when they were talking about Barcelona, don't remember if they meant Phenom as well.

Quite a few benchmarks have, what I consider, the correct power consumption.

Too lazy to go find the other ones but they had very similar results to Tom's.

Well, Phenom was certainly an underwhelming experience. I had hoped that AMD would put up a fight and at least match Conroe before getting crushed by Penryn. Phenom still has some potential, but it's a shame AMD didn't break out of their lagging behind Intel trend.

Good point about Barcy/Phenom, I don't recall the PPW claim for Phenom either, must've been a cranial malfunction ;)

Anyhow, the problem with that Tom's page is that the Q6600 is mysteriously absent. It runs at 2.4GHz, handily outperforms the Phenom 9700, and the closest figure to it on that page is the QX6700 which is a 2.66GHz part so I would imagine that the Q6600, had it been included, would show the Phenom gobbling up more juice as well.

I think I would hold off on a Phenom if I had a 2.6Ghz X2 until AMD released some new revised CPUs.
