Do you guys think (or know) thatEA will push it's money grabbing techniques into BF3? I am talking about the stuff they do with the NHL and Tiger Woods franchises where if you want to be truly competetive you have to spend $1.29 for a shirt or stick with increased attributes.

Any thoughts?

Really looking forward to BF3 but EA scares me.

Well I'm sure there will be day 1 DLC or something similar in which they'll keep bleeding you dry of all of your cash.

That I doubt they will but I'm sure they'll sell weapon and character skins, and other things.

I see it more and more, with more developers/publishers as time passes by.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Hopefully they'll be releasing some extra map content for free like with Bad Company 2. After all, they are competing with Modern Warfare 3 and you know Call of Duty is going to have paid DLC so they better make another free DLC map pack so they can say "u mad?" to Activision.

If they are smart, and really want to compete with COD, they wouldn't. This is EA we're talking about though...

tbh I've always thought EA has been pretty good with PC customers, at least as far as the Battlefield series goes. If Bad Company 2 is any indication of how BF3 will play out (in terms of service), then no...BF3 will not be a money-grabbing release.

........This is a business.. Their main goals is to make profits.. If they see a suitable enough return for DLC profits, they will do it.. Rarely do companies diverge from this, inless its a smaller lesser known company.. Or other such things.. DLCs are not a bad thing.. Quite often they add far more longevity for the game simply due to the fact the dev is actually focusing on it for over a year.. Instead of the typical formula we use to see for many devs.. That is.. Release game.. Maybe release a few patches for some fixes.. Then dump it more or less.. Rarely did devs ever release any kind of patches with content.. Things like Valve and Blizzard has done in supporting their older games was all but unheard of til recently.

Being that I'm still on WinXP and that game isn't DX9 compatible.... I don't really care what EA does with that game. They've already lost me.

I don't care about large DLC with maps and guns and other stuff, I moreso just hate the $1.29 for a gun with better stats than any other "regular" gun which is essentially what EA has been doing with other franchises. Maps and stuff are great. Having to pay to be "the best" is flat out annoying and ruins any appeal, atleast to me.

Of course they will its EA, and do you know why they will? Because they know people will be stupid enough to buy it. If people stopped buying it then we might start to get our mod tools back in other games and then everyone will benefit from free DLC in the form of mods and free user made content.

You already saw the storm that was kicked up over pre-order DLC. Hopefully that will act as an indication to them as to what customers think of it, but I get the feeling that something will arrive later for a price.

I'm sure EA has weekly meetings which they basically say, "Ok lets brainstorm of ways to milk them for more money...Go!"

That is kind of your loss. It is certainly less cost effective to program for aging software.

I know the feeling I'm still using xp on my desktop. I've had plenty of times to buy it but I've spent money else where on my pc.

I don't know if get windows 7 or not. I can get a lot of other games with that $100 that works with win XP.

But when microsoft pulls the plug on support I suppose I'll have to upgrade although by then I probably have a new PC.

Online Pass for sure. Or VIP code. I dunno how Crytek got away with having neither. EA will try and get money out of you any way they can.

You're going to miss out on what could possibly be the greatest multiplayer shooter ever to hit PC because you refuse to upgrade your operating system and "get with the times"? Heh. Your loss.

As long as the "stuff" they sell doesn't imbalance the game then I'm cool with it. You have a choice whether to buy DLC or not. There's a business world too, you know.

This is so true, what I hate though is new maps DLC, because then you nearly HAVE to buy it cause everyone goes and plays on the new maps... and ur left with only Deathmatch on the old ones. Happens a lot with CoD.... I haven't seen it happen that much with BC2.

Only bads would buy weapons or whatever that have slightly better stats. You can dominate games with the starter weapons if you're halfway decent, so buying DLC weapons would just be stupid.

Those grubby bastards at EA will grab every last penny they can grab, until every gamer's pockets are empty. They don't care about anyone except their shareholders. They are going to dangle carrots in front of everyone's faces in the form of exclusive weapons and equipment that exceed the base items in power. Anyone who plays the game with a competitive mindset has to buy them.

Is this what gaming has been reduced to? And some people wonder why certain old gamers long for the old days of PC gaming. If any superior equipment comes out that can only be bought as DLC then I will boycott the game. I will go out of my way to help start a movement against this game. Gamers need to draw a line in the sand against EA or any company that would do this.

Almost all free MMORPGs do that, that is nothing new and you do get certain benefits from buying weapons in BFH for example but EA would never do such a thing for their important titles.

I totally agree. Yeah, it's like you have no choice in this kind of situation. I have to buy DLC to "keep up." Or else, your multiplayer experience is kinda obsolete.

By the time the DLCs come out on CoD (or became popular), I have already played it to death and have moved onto the next game.... in my case anyway.

The popularity of BFBC2 took EA and DICE by surprise. They're ready this time with BF3. They're likely to bleed it dry. There is already a pre-order weapon modifier pack which will not be available to purchase after the game. You can also bet on a ton of pay2play map packs.

lol if EA "bleeds" bf3 it won't be anything like how activision and their call of duty games. I really don't think they well, I think they will sell expansions (like they did for BF2 and BFBC2). But I don't think they will just charge you 20$ for like 2-3 new maps and thats it. Vietnam was 15$ and was new maps + like new guns and just set in the vietnam era. I have faith in dice as so far they haven't been so money grubby. Their online service is already going to be free their battle log is going to be free as well. In my eyes they are making great decisions so far ^^.

I just double checked. DICE have now said the contents of physical warfare (preorder weapon modifiers) will be unlocked later in the year for all other players. So pre-orders will most likely have the content around 6 months before the rest of the community.

I believe one of the pre-order items is a flash suppressor. They are trying to say it won't significantly unbalance the game, but it sounds like it will. If you can't see the flash of a sniper, he might kill your entire squad and never be seen. The fact that pre-order customers get this advantage for any length of time is unethical.

It will be available to all at a later date.
