i want to build a new gaming rig. would i really be saving a ton of money building one in november or should i just build now? i am thinking about this becuase i dont see the new 9800 gtx coming out anytime soon. plus i think it would be cool to have a really nice rig for hl2 ep.2. and also since i will have a sli mobo i can always upgrade if i have too. so all in all would it be a good time to build now or wait till november and save a few bucks?

It depends on what you are thinking of buying and how much you are planning to spend. Its impossible to know with the information you've provided.

well everything gets cheaper because everything loses value over time. The way I see it no new graphics card is coming out for a while so just get build a computer now and enjoy some games before crysis comes out. you can check this site

http://pc.ign.com/articles/822/822041p1.html

for more info on upcoming games to put you new rig to use. If you keep on waiting you'll never be happy, just gata take the plunge sometime.

Go build a rig with top of the line parts now like I did. You won't regret it.

Yes now is a great time. You can't keep waiting for the next best thing, because there will ALWAYS be new technology coming out in the near future. If the 9800gtx or whatever comes out in the next 90 days you can use the step up program from EVGA.

here is what i am looking to build? build now or wait? also will be running at 1200 by 1920

Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E 120mm Case Fan - Retail2 of these

- Scrap this and get 2 of these instead, destroys the S-Flex: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999344

SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe and Software Black IDE Model SH-S182M/BEBM - OEM

- You said you arechanging intoa SATA drive instead, go for it.

COOLER MASTER Stacker RC-832-KKN1-GP Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail

- Save yourself $40 and go for Cosmos 1000 instead, it is every bit as good as the Stacker 832 but improves on the 832 flaws: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119138

ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - Retail

- If you are not going for monstrous overclocks, the Freezer 7 Pro is definitely a great buy.

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400C4 - Retail

- Crappy RAM using Elpida chips. Go for either of these instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148144 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609026

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400C4 - Retail

- Crappy RAM using Elpida chips. Go for either of these instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148144 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820609026

EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

- A pretty good 680i mobo. You can go for an alternative which IMO does better than the NF68-A1 which is the Asus P5N32-E: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131073

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

- Ditto'.

SAMSUNG 245BW Black high glossy 24" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor with Height Adjustment - Retail

- A pretty decent choice. While the 245BW definitely carries a nice price tag for a 24incher, it really doesn't perform for its $500 value justice. You can go for the Dell E2407WFP instead which does better than the Samsung 245BW.

Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD - OEM

Creative 70SB046A00000 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series - Retail

EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80562Q6600 - Retail

CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX

- The Corsair HX620 is definitely an awesome choice for a PSU. However, keep an eye out for Cooler Master's new M620 PSU which in my eyes... does even better than the HX620.

You are spending so much on that rig that I doubt any of your parts will drop enough in price to make a difference. At most, the CPU will drop a $50 in price after the phenoms come out (awssuming they are better than the Intel chips), and the VGA MIGHT drop $100 at most.

Isn't a big deal if you don't plan on OCing. But why spend $102 for the damn Corsair when you can get the Crucial at $99 while the latter giving better performance instead?

any more input if i should buy this pc now or wait? thanksgregdpw

Don't expect the Q6600 or any of Intel's current C2D line up to drop in price until Penryn hits the shelf. As for the 8800GTX, you can expect it to drop its price a little when Nvidia's G90 comes out. While frankly speaking, Penryn is still months away and X38 is about to hit the consumers in just a couple more days.

Wait or not is up to you really. If I were you, I would wait a little bit more and see what X38 can do first.
