Do you think this recall will affect Intel's sales until the time when they release redesigned boards for the P67 chipset? I was just watchingthisvideo, and Linus says that it won't be until April or May when Intel releases redesigned boards. Don't you think people with tight budgets will opt for the next best thing, which are Phenoms? Not to say that Sandy Bridge chips were as cheap as Phenoms, but they are relatively cheaper than Bloomfield chips and perform better, which might have persuaded someone to spend just a little more to get one. What do you guys think? Also, how bad do you think this makes Intel look? Also, I noticed that Newegg doesn't seem to have the CPUs for sell, either. I thought the recall only affected the boards.

It might put some people off Intel, but I really don't think it will have a large long-term effect. When I buy a new CPU, which will be at the earliest, end of year, I will be ignoring it and going with who ever has the best chip for my budget.

Nah, problems always occur when new things come out. Expect Sandy-Bridge Intel boards to be back to full force once the redesigned boards are in full production. Till then I would expect everyone will not upgrade or hold off.

This really blows for people who've been waiting so long for this moment. Now, they have to wait even longer. Damn.

I was about to place my order too. Guess I'll have to wait til' April/May to play Shogun 2 and Crysis 2. At least they'll be cheaper by then.

Honestly no, for the preformance and price of this new line, i don't even see it holding back sandy bridge sales, they will have a fix in a month-2 and sales i would expect to go back to normal

The only way it really helps AMD (at least in terms of consumer sales; OEMs could be a different story) is if they can get Bulldozer out within a month or so of the revised 6-series chipsets. As-is Sandy Bridge and Phenom II are priced out in such a way there really isn't much direct competition: you're either going to go with AMD as a value buy or Intel for pure performance, and I can't imagine too many people are in a middleground that would be willing to "trade down" from SB to Phenom instead of wait the couple of extra months. But if AMD can get Bulldozer out in time and deliver on the promise of Sandy Bridge-esque performance at Phenom II prices, though, they could definitely cause some headaches for Intel.

As much as I like Intel, I hope this happens. AMD is a good company, but it sucks that they've got to compete with both Intel and Nvidia. Damn.

straight from the retail floor in australia, some laptops from HP and toshiba are being quarantined penfing further notice. some of the models being affected are the DV6-5004, DV6-4006 and 4008. on the toshiba front, the recent X500 model and the two top end A660 models are being pulled.

I dont think there would be that big an effect as currently there is only one manufacturer of high end CPU's so consumers dont really have a choice.

umm there would be no point doing that with the 1055T. your current rig is already on par/better. But by the summer time bulldozer will definitely be out, so you may as well get that.

That's not a very smart upgrade.

It would be a sidestep at best, C2Q are better than Phenom II.

Get a Sandy Bridge or wait for Bulldozer to come out. Until then, get a decent cooler and OC to 3GHz+.

i really think this will help out amd. this little problem will give amd another 2months and right on time for bulldozer to come in. If bulldozer is fast and cheap, intel won't have a chance.

The term you are looking for is proactive.

I know Intel is always better for performance and such but I always tend to go AMD, just for the sake of helping the idea of competition to stay alive in the microprocessor industry. I am, like many people, are waiting on the full specs for Bulldozer. If they are greatly better then what I have, then I might just take a leap but if not then, I'll wait till the rumored "Enhanced" Bulldozer to come out in 2012. Does anyone know how long AM2+ was a standard before being replaced by AM3?

Intel wasn't always the best, pretty much from the time the original athlon came out until the core 2 came out AMD and Intel were almost always neck and neck, occasionally taking turns in the lead.
