Well other people on different forums said that it won't run on this Sony notebook since it has a Intel HD graphics chip. But I guess they were wrong and I can play these games. I thought it was strange that todays computers won't be able to run old games like Quake 4. I mean this machine normaly costs $700 today but I got it on sale for $580 so it was a great deal.Dustin_BrokeYour GPU isn't as bad as everybody makes it out to be. Of course it won't play any Heavy games like Crysis or Metro 2033 but for those old games its more than enough Hell I've even seen it play WOW with decent framerates
So even this computer is brand new it won't play all todays games even at low settings? I thought this Sony would play it since it has a good CPU. It's an Intel i3 2.4 Ghz with 4 GB ram and can go upto 8 GB. I just got this PC yesterday at OfficeMax localy. What games can it play at low settings for todays games? just wondering.Dustin_Broke
None. Metro 2033 would choke, Crysis would be an unplayable mess, Mass Effect 1 and 2 would be a slideshow and Dragon Age may work. May.

He meant today's games, and the answer is no.
How about Turok, StarCraft 2 or The Sims 3? I seen people play StarCraft 2 on an older Intel video chip so I think mine would work right? I don't know if Turok will play though or even Unreal Tournament 3.Dustin_BrokeStarcraft 2 will work in lowish. The Sims 3 might hickup a little bit but it would be playable on low. Turok should also be playable on the lowest settings
You make an valid point but my counter argument would be that a Console is not as portable as a laptop. The next question is why play at low settings? A console would be much better here.

But low settings? That defeats the point of of playing games. The OP should have bought an Alienware M11x if he wanted portability and gaming.
Well it's better to be able to play the game at lowest settings then not being able to play at higher settings. I mean I was using a notebook that was 9 years old and it still works. I got this new Sony notebook as a gift and it's 100 times better than my old Sony notebook. I can't afford to buy any computers and I was lucky to get this new one. Plus it wasn't like the cheapest one out there today you know. I seen notebook that are $350 but mine was normaly around $700 so I am lucky. I thought somehow this notebook will play all games today but just at least on lowest settings.Dustin_Broke
The lowest settings look about as good as those from your 9 year old laptop.
Ok so it will play Turok and those other games I was talking about. But what games today can this notebook play? Is there any that can play in lowest settings? If there isn't any what is the last year of games that were made that can play on this machine? Like example all of 2008 games. Well if StarCraft 2 plays then that is todays games but I heard some people say that StarCraft 2 doesn't use much graphics though. But I was wondering in general can this notebook play any other todays games on the lowest settings? Dustin_BrokeLeft for dead should be playable on low if at all. Unfortunatly your gaming options are mostly limited to games 2007 and older
This laptop will play most new games at medium, some on low:

Well basicly I had to choose from the Toshiba notebook or the Sony and I decided to get the Sonys since I hear that Toshiba ones gets hardware problems after 4 years and Sony notebooks last very long time. I need a notebook that will last since I can't afford in buying a new one. The Toshiba one has a triple core AMD type processor and had the ATI Radeon 4250 video chip and I thought that was better for games but I decided to go with the more expensive one that was the Sonys since people are saying Sony machines last a long time without problem. I guess I' am saying that Toshiba notebooks has problem I hear from people and they say to not buy it.Dustin_BrokeIn my experiance Toshiba's are reliable (I use one to edit audio) and the Toshiba you mentioned would be much better for games
I basicly need a machine that will last for many years since I can't afford in buying a new pc.Dustin_BrokeI understand where you are coming from but everybody has different experiences with different companies. I've heard the same horror stories about sony's that you have been hearing about Toshiba ;). The same can be said about Dell, HP, Gateway etc. Everybody's experience is different
I basicly need a machine that will last for many years since I can't afford in buying a new pc.Dustin_Broke
You can build a desktop PC that will play anything on high for $600.
HT is next to useless when it come to gaming so the triple core would have been better but anyway, Click the link and scroll down to the game benchmarks. Whats listed is essentially what your computer can handle more or less, Slightly less in most cases I'd say away from the games that say -1fps on low if I were you:P anything over 20fps is playable

Well it is very strange that a cheaper machine is better than the Sonys since it was like $100 cheaper on the Toshiba notebook. But are you saying that I should of not got this machine? Is the Intel i3 2.4 gHz machine not good at all? I thought the Intel i series was good. Others say it's better than the triple core AMD I was compairing to. I just hope I didn't get a bad machine for games.Dustin_BrokeThe performance difference isn't anything to be worried over. You shouldn't notice a massive difference in the CPU's
i recommended a nice on on page 1 knocks te bojangles out from underneath your system in terms of gaming.. everyday use basically puts them on the same page. like it isnt futureproof but if you stockpiled a bunch of recent and older titles now you could play them until you could afford something decent.
and you would be comparable to the lower end fusion APU's out there.
a turion 2.3ghz and a 4330 pr 4250 more or less match anything intel can throw out in the laptop market thats 1) strictly intel and 2) core i3 or lower.
at a core i5 it winds a few battles but cant stave off the processing power they posses but in essentially all gaming benches the i5 looses out.
Well anyways what year is the latest games that I can forsure play at the lowest settings? It seems like not all of the 2010 games I can play so will I be able to play games from 2009 or 2008?Dustin_BrokeDid you click the link I gave you?
Are you talking about the link that shows details about the video chip I have? I knew that website before but just wanted to know what year games works forsure but it looks like some todays games works and some don't. But eatherway since you guys did say forsure that Quake 4 and Doom 3 will work on med settings so that's a good thing.Dustin_BrokeMost Anything 2007 and older will run on medium or better with the exception of Crysis and maybe a couple others but I was surprised to see what games 2008 and newer were getting on the benchmarks in the link I posted earlier.

The next question is why play at low settings? A console would be much better here.

he should have just bought a gaming laptop instead of a netbook. How about Turok, StarCraft 2 or The Sims 3? I seen people play StarCraft 2 on an older Intel video chip so I think mine would work right? I don't know if Turok will play though or even Unreal Tournament 3.Dustin_BrokeOne of my co-workers was running StarCraft 2 on his netbook, so that game at least should run just fine on your laptop.
I was just wondering if you guys played Doom 3 and Quake 4 on a system like mine and how did it perform. Did you really had it in med settings and did it lag at all? Or was it perfectly smooth at med settings?Dustin_Broke
I've got a Dell Insiron with a pentium Duel core at 2.0ghz, 2 gigs of ram and and Intel HD4 series chipset. I haven't played those particular games not, but just to try this idea out I put Rome: Total War on the machine and it ran pretty well actually. Very playable, I was pretty please actually. I'd imagine Doom3 would run all right, but you'd have to turn the settings down a bit. I don't have the game unfortunitely, so I can't try it first hand.
