Q6600 Overclocked 15%

8800 GTS 320mbextreme edition

2GBs of DDR2 667mhzram

Running at a resolution of 1680x1050.

I ordered this rig a couple of nights ago and am looking forward to playing Supreme Commander. I just hope I'll be able to play it well with mid-high settings at an acceptable frame rate (30fps or so). Note- I intend to upgrade my graphics card later (8900 series). I did not buy this card for future-proofing so much as I did for price:performance. Well let me know how I will fair in supreme commander and thanks for your time. :)

Since you have a Core 2 Duo (is it?), a near top-end graphics card, and 2 Gigs Ram, you have the system I DREAM of having. Congrats, man, you got yourself a winner.

Oh, and yes, it will run SupCom. Probably with everything maxed out.

Heh, Core 2 quad actually. :P

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I'm still alittle worried though on well the card will handle this game at 1680X1050 resolution because of the limited memory (320). I don't plan on having 8 player matches or anything, just 4 player max. So I hope it will run fine.

I run SupCom on my E6600/2GB RAM/7900GT at 1680x1050 at near max settings (2x AA, medium shadows) at 30 to 80 FPS when there's little happening, 20 to 30 FPS during battles or when there are a lot of units on screen. You should be fine with that rig.

I should get about similar performance then. I probably won't run AA. It's never really been a big deal for me.

I just tried no AA in SupCom and noticed little difference between it and 2x AA except for the performance increase. The reason why I played with 2x AA was because the UI looked jagged and bad with no AA. I guess they fixed that in a patch.

Oh okay. Well if it occurs no real performance hit I guess I mind as well use it. To be honest, I've heard Supreme Commander doesn't really get performance hits when using AA as opposed to other games. I should be fine in that aspect.

What I meant was that no AA gave me a performance increase with no noticeable hit in image quality.

I usually play online. I've played with 7 AI once, and it got a little laggy late into the game, but it was still playable.

That would be stupid, resolution>other settings on any LCD because monitors look there best on there native resolution.

These are the very latest using the most upto date drivers from Nvidia.

This is using an X6800, but to be honest the Quad only really shines on Supcom on the 81 by 81 and to a lesser degree the 40 by 40 maps that no one ever plays because they are just to big, like thousands of times bigger then your average RTS maps, and of course against mulitple AI's, but online is where it's at :)

And believe it or not it seems that on high end computers you actually get better minimum frame rates in Supreme Commander then you do CNC 3 a game thats touted to be much more friendly to computers, that may be so for the low end, but for the high end it seems supcom runs even better which is amazing considering how much more technically advanced Supreme Commander is over CNC 3, with real time physics, the super zoom, thousands of units, insanely big maps, etc.

Heres CNC's numbers, I know it's capped at 30, but look at the low frame rates :?

are you blind? you're telling me something and you're showing up with your char that says exactly the oppositePredatorRules

He means to say that running the game at the screen's native resolution will look much better.

for example : native res with med settings > a lower res with high settings

Exactly, I can't stand playing games on my LCD when they are not on the native resolution, the picture quality goes down drastically

you will probably get some slowdown when you have battles on the bigger maps, but even then, it shouldn't be too costly to your mission or whatnot. hope you have a good time obliterating aliens and online n00bs. lol
