Story will probably be forgettable but I have never played an open world game with a good story. Elder Scrolls games are about their freedom and moddability.
The story will probably be nothing special. It usually isn't in open world games though, the story is more just to get the player to go places and help level up. The mods are what I'm really looking forward too.

If it is anything like Oblivion I wouldn't expect a very deep story. Oblivion was more of a sandbox RPG I felt.
No, not a chance. The story, like all Bethesda games, will be forgettable and poorly written and the gameplay won't be great, but Skycaptain will probably make a version of Deadly Reflex for Skyrim that improves the combat significantly.
Skyrim will let me play a female Nord with a Destiny who kills Dragons and harnesses their Powers. That's good enough for me, and a lot better than we had with Oblivion. And I find it infinitely more appealing than playing Geralt.
It's a matter of perspective of course, but a I consider a TES game's gameplay to be deeper than a Witcher game be definition... Though I only briefly played TW2. I mean, in general terms we're talking open and dynamic vs scripted. (I found the combat in TW2 to be kind of lame besides... though not as awful as the first game lol)
Deep story, Bethesda is the dev so I doubt it.
Deep gameplay, the fact that they dumbed down EVEN MORE than Oblivion is alarming, but given the rumors, the makers of Dark Messiah are on it so it could still have a chance.
i love these games because unlike witcher its quite open ,its not about a scripted looooong story with some side quests , its the fact that you can do ANYTHING and change permanently the game and story will play from that point, thats what makes these games amazing. It makes the story feel personal and unique depending on your playstyle, not just choices.intro94
You've never played Oblivion or Fallout 3, have you.
Witcher 2 : Combat, Depth, Story, Graphics
Skyrim : Exploration, Open World, Lenght,Mods
Nope. What was shown of Skyrim doesn't even look impressive ( modified gamebryo) and Bethesda said they will put no effort in making the PC version look better.visual quality will be superior. ionusX

The only selling point that elder scrolls games have is the open world. After playing mmos though that's something that doesn't impress me anymore. Tor and GW2 will have a much bigger world to explore.

You can post cat pics as much as you want it still doesn't change the fact that that's the main selling point of ES games. They're the only open world single player rpgs. Oblivion had average gameplay, dungeons, loot, enemies. Everything about it was just average but players loved it because of the sandbox nature of the open world and mods.
