Why should they be producing free content for you? You don't want to pay for dlc, don't pay for it.[QUOTE="godofwar2610"][QUOTE="Drazule"]Nope, unfortunately it's ten bucks. Hopefully it will be better than it were free then.

Why should they be producing free content for you? You don't want to pay for dlc, don't pay for it.Valve does free content updates, so does blizzard (although $15/month can be argued).
This whole move toward micro transactions for essentially a mod is bull**** in my mind. If the content could of been put in before the release and they release a game and a day after the game comes out the content is released is ****.
This applies to FO3 because of the leveling they are adding, I could argue weapons if those are included, and anything outside of a large quest. I'm not paying these companies for little mods that are overpriced

The level cap can be removed by a user made mod, there are lots of weapon mods I thnk too but i haven't tried any of them yet.

They're 3 expansions, not extensionsBethesda has said each DLC will be about equal in size and content if not bigger then Oblivions Knights of the Nine ,which was a fairly large and great little addition. I don't get why people are complaining about paying for this extensions. First of all it's there game so they have a right to produce and charge whatever they want, but it's also your right to buy or pass on said products. Nothing worth anything is free in todays world, developers run a business and the purpose of that business is to make a profit. Valve is usually extremly slow and there free content is generally very small, and Blizzard you're paying $15 a month so I'd hope you get something out of it.
Personally I like the move to mirco transactions, it's like an expansion pack that you can pick and choose the parts you want, most expansions cost $30-$40 anyways so what's the difference really. It's also a great way to extend the life of a game in ways that mods can't. Two of the three DLCs coming out I really doubt can be done correctly by mods, though Oblivion modders really did break the bar so it might be done. But in the end, you don't have to buy the DLC if you really don't want to, but not buying the game is a bad move on your part. THe original game alone is a great experiance, the mods that'll be rolling out soon will make it legendary.

They're 3 expansions, not extensions 3 or 4 hours of content isn't an expansion, it's a waste of money. This is why consoles make so much, these little "expansions" are released separate from the game when they should have been included with the game. An expansion is usually 15+ hours of content that is priced at $20-$40 and goes down in price really quickly. The new trend is actually release a full games worth of content and call it a stand alone expansion priced at $40 which is fair, 3 or 4 hours for $10 isn't.10$ for a mod? No thanks.
Why would you pirate Mass Effect DLC when it was FREE if you owned the legit copy of the game:?
At least Valve doesn't charge for new updates. L4D's DLC will be free and will be awesome I am sure.
i was refereeing ti the fact that dlc can be pirated right? if yes then why mass effect dlc isnt?HellboardMy hypothesis is that since it is free and it actually doesn't add much new significance to the game (aside from a quest chain), there is no demand for it and so its probably not worth it for the pirates. How should I know anyway if I don't pirate?

Whiteblade999
so your telling me that these $40 expansions give you 16 hours of gameplay?
bewcause if they dont give you more than 16 hours for $40 its no differant than giving you 4hours for $10.
i can think of only a few expansions that give anywhere near 16 hours of content, and they would likely all be for RPGs.

When did being in business to make money become a bad thing? If you want to make a statement, don't buy it. If you pirate it, you deserve to DIAF.I blame consoles for the paid DLC shenanigans going on these days. We've been spoiled for so long with getting extra content for free (both user mods and developer addons) that it just sucks to now have to pay for it. At least PC versions of games are typically cheaper and drop in price quicker, since there isn't an extra bit skimmed off the top by the console manufacturer.
Some companies still release free content, but now that people have shown their willingness to pay for it there is no turning back.
Correct. They are almost all for RPGs. Because, Expansions for RPGs really need to be that length to be worth the money, as RPGs themselves are often (although not always!) huge timesinks. People aren't going to go back and play a game they have probably played for over forty or so hours just for one hour of new content. Fallout 3 is not exempt from this.i can think of only a few expansions that give anywhere near 16 hours of content, and they would likely all be for RPGs.

If you pirate it, you deserve to DIAF.I'm only suggesting that they are releasing something for money that in the past I could get the same thing for free (and its likely someone might release a mod sooner or later similar to what they are "officially" releasing). It's not like the game didn't sell millions of copies, I just don't like being milked by companies (Guitar Hero and Rock Band are the worst at it...releasing song packs the day after the game is released). :)
I agree with you on the pirate issue :D
