For some odd reason I find myself missing the old homeworld series, especially my favorite of the series homeworld cataclysm. I've noted many similar space games come through that have all gotten poor reviews such as sword of the stars.

I can only guess at the reasons why the homeworld games have declined, less pc sales to consoles, continued failure of other ship building space games. I was just wondering what everyone else is thinking about ship builiding, combat space games like homeworld- I rarely hear much from that particular space combat genre. Dont get me wrong either, there are still numerous space compace games that still come out, its just that it feels like the flair of homeworld games has undergone extinction.

Hopefully someone can prove me wrong, I miss these games.

One can only hope.

Homeworld 2 was pretty awesome and as far as RTSs go it's my favourite along side Company of Heroes.

Relic can only handle so much at a time.

They started with the Homeworld game, which were great, then they continued on to Incredible Creatures, and after that focused all their efforts on Dawn Of War and Company of Heroes.

Each game they ever made was awesome, and I think that is becuase they are a small focused team. They can't handle multiple projects like other companies but they do a swell job whatever their game is.

Right now they're making expansions for Dawn of War 2, and a new 3rd person Action game called Space Marine. They're also suppoting Company of Heroes Online. I'm not sure they have the resources to start more projects...

One thing I would really love from them is to take the lore and story of Dawn Of War and make a Space Strategy game from it, much like Homeworld, but with Dawn of War lore. That would be awesome :D

Well dude don't despair too much cuz they did recently re-aquire the licence for homeworld apparently a while back. It did make the news but everything has been quite since. Check out the link on shacknews http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/49769

No it isn't.. Sins of the Solar Empire isn't like Homeworld series in the least outside of both of them being space games.. That being said I hope they give you a map editior and actually give the kind of features only known in Blizzard RTS's with user made content creating custom maps.

Homeworld showed you could in fact have a deep and riveting story in an RTS where you just control ships against 2d space backdrops.

I dont think the situation wouldn't be so bad had there been a decent replacement. I really couldn't get into sins as much. I dont feel too optimisitic about seeing a new homeworld any time soon, but I'm really hoping that some other developer decides to take some initiative and make a very similar type of game. What worries me about the homeworld series is that with homeworld 2 they decided to not make an expansion, even though they had created beautiful graphics and solid gameplay. Also story=awesome, I can safely say that homeworld cataclysm is up there in my top games of all time.
