Don't listen to every wiseguy around here. The answer is YES ! I don't know what a 9600M is...but I'm going to buy a 9600 GT for my PC and it will run any game at 1280x1024 high detail. Future games....maybe at medium detail...but the idea is you don't need more than that. The newest 260/280 are for people who through money out the window... Any GF9 cards are the perfect choice for "modern" PCs.Razvan_ol
9600M is the Laptop version of the 9600 series but due to limited spacing inside a laptop the lack of cooling can be a problem and laptop gpus are never as powerfull as there desktop counterparts.
As for the 9600M GT its not the best gaming graphics card available in a laptop by a long shot, in fact the medium settings and medium resolution previously mentioned does sound spot on.
Here is a list of Laptop GPUS I found, not sure how old it is but it does list some of the top cards so probably not too old, the 9600M GT ranks 35th and for the sort of games you want in the future I reckon you will need something in the top 10 if not the top .
EDIT: Just noticed you only said 9600M which I cant find on the list, so not sure if its normal, GS or GT but the GS version ranks 45th.
Have fun
