Seems good, you suggest upgrading the 5770 for a GTX460.

I would say it is. The 5770 is slightly slower than my 4890 and while that isnt a bad thing (I still get 60+ fps in games). The GTX460 is outperforming HD6870s IIRC.

Ahhh the choices. I will have to consider it, before I start spending more money though I'm going to figure out how much the motherboard is going to cost.

Yep, most of today's games don't utilize hexa-core processing, so you'd be better off getting the X4, and putting the difference to a better graphics card.

Unless you really need it ditch the blu-ray drive and put that money into a better GPU. If you really need the drive change the hex core to a 955 and put that tmoney into GPU. Also overclock that CPU and you're set.

Well by the time games start really utilizing 6 cores there will be much better and cheaper options for 6+ core processors on the market. And honestly he will see much more significant performance gains from a better GPU than CPU. My 4 year old Core 2 Duo is still rocking most games just fine.

You got it all backwards.

HD4890 > HD5770.

HD5770 ~HD4870/GTX260

HD6850 > GTX460 768mb

HD6870 > GTX460 1GB. This is how they perform.

From bets to worst.

HD6870 > gtx460 1GB > HD6850 > GTX460 768MB > GTX285 > GTX275/HD4890 > GTX260 216core ~ HD5770 > GTS450 > GTX260/HD4870 >HD4850/GTS250

Well I already said the 5770 is slower than the 4890, and yes the 6870 performs better against the 6870 at STOCK, but the 460s can OC to higher than what the 6870s could achieve. (This is just last ive heard though)

switch the amd phenom x6 for an i5 760 or a phenom II x4 955. Unless you're into video editing and stuff its not going to be useful to you. The video card is good but its starting to show its age. Consider a gtx 460 or an AMD 6850. The AMD 6850 is better if you're going AMD because they scale much better in crossfire mode than the gtx 460 in SLI, also the power requirements are less and only requires 1 pci e pin connector.

I find nothing wrong with this, but I do think it should be noted that if he switches to Intel, he'd have to get a new mobo. Which may be an unnecessary expense.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

$169 for the 8gb G.skill ripjaw kit?? I paid $120 or so 3 weeks ago from newegg. Might wanna look there, wil save you a few bucks.

Also why the need for $12 on a thunderblade 120 mm? The case comes with two 120mm and one 200mm built in alrdy.

A ram cooler? The G.skill ripjaws have a very decent passive heatsink on them alrdy, dont need to spend another 12 on a ram cooler.

This shop is just nickle and diming you big time. Just my 2.ct

Buying the parts online isnt an option for me, but since the case comes with two coolers I won't worry about the Thunderblade then. After all the comments about the graphics card I will probably get a different one but still get the same processor as I don't seem the harm in getting it instead of a x4, I don't mind spending the money on the CPU. BTW I am not going to overclock ANY of the parts on my computer as I ceebs and don't know how. I will probably still get the RAM cooler because I want this PC as cool as possible.
