i got amd 3700+ overclocked to 2.47 GHZ with a geforce 7600 GT and 3 gb of RAM

i play FEAR fully maxed out on a 19" lcd at 1400x900 with about 30 fps, which is percectly fine for me (i cant tell the diff between that and 60 fps, i honestly cant). will my rig be able to max out oblivion (with some decent AA and AF) at at least 25 fps

also

im thinking of upgrading to a amd athlon x2 4800+ at 2.4 ghz and a new ati card when it comes out. will that max out a game like crysis(again all i need is like 35 fps)

you wont max it out, but close @1280x1024.  Taking off distances and so forth.  You will have to choose no HDR and yes to AA with the 7600gt or you say yes to HDR and no to AA.

I woudl personally rather have 2x1gb than 3x1gb.   Then it will be in dualchannel.  Also that CPU is a monster for overclocking.  Many hit 2.8-3.0Ghz with the right cooling.

And yes to your 2nd question, it should max out Crysis.  Crysis is not gonna be suuuuuuuper heavy.  It will be yes, but it will be so well optimized its designed to be on wide range of setups.  That same setup would max Oblivion too

That should be fine as long as the RAM is all the same speed.

no way at max 1024x768 will the sliders 50% distant lands and stuff but there is no way youll be able to do shadows or hdr lighting

unless you want a slideshow that is. I play oblivion with a 7600gt and AA is not possible.
