I'm getting a laptop in April, and I've pretty much settled on the fact that if it can run crysis on its "recommended" settings, then I'm happy.

This was a laptop I was looking at

Processor : Processor Type * - Core™2 Duo
Processor Number *- T7200
Processor Speed *- 2.0GHz

Operating System *: Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium (32-bit)

Memory Size *: 2048MB Display Size *: 17.0"

Display Type *: Widescreen XGA with TruBrite™ Technology

Display Resolution *: 1440x900 Graphics Chipset *: GeForce® Go 7900 GS

Graphics Memory *: 256MB GDDR3

Hard Drive Size *: 200GB Hard Drive Speed : 4200rpm

Optical Drive *: DVD-SuperMulti drive (+/-R double layer)

Wireless LAN *: Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (802.11a/b/g)

And here are the recommended Crysis reqirements

CPU: Dual-core CPU (Athlon X2/Pentium D)
Graphics: Nvidia 7600 or ATI X1600 Pro (SM 3.0) or DX10 equivalent
RAM: 1.5GB+
HDD: 6GB
Internet: 512k+ (128k+ upstream)
Optical Drive: DVD
Software: DX9.0c with Windows XP

I'm not very adept at computer lingo, so i was hoping you could tell me if the laptop can run it

Easily.

You may have to turn the resolution down slightly and not have everything maxed out, but it will run very well while looking very nice.

If you run the game with DX 10 it will work ok with medium settings but since the laptop has a 7900gs you will have to use the new DX 9l which will give you better performance due to its lower rendering quality.

#1 He can't play the game in DX10, he doesn't have a DX10 card.
#2 DX9L - "Windows Vista Only. Fomerly called 9.0L. Provides DirectX 9 API for Vista. The Inquirer posted an article on October 16, 2006 stating that 9.0L would be DirectX 10 for Windows XP, but later stated that it was a mistake."

BTW- can you give me the source that states DX9L uses "lower rendering quality?"

Currently the 8800GTX and GTS are the only DX10 cards on the market.
Early March, 11-13, ATi will release their DX10 cards, though they will be battling Nvidia's high-end cards, so don't expect sub $200 cards.

Later in March Nvidia will release their mid-low range cards going for under $200.
ATi will respond to that in late April.

Wow, you really have your sources.  Would it be possible for me to replace the card in the laptop with the 8800?

Nope, if you really want to game in DX10 on your laptop, you will have to wait for ASUS to bring out these:

The G80 is much too large, power hungry and hot to ever think about cramming it inside a laptop.
