Hardly milking. Milking would be like "Introducing Ep4: The Animated TV Series!! Starring Danny Glover as the voice of Gordon!! "I'm getting too old for this **** " and a special cameo by Cher herself!!
Or selling a new batch of the I love Valve: Lombardi 4 Life T-shirts. We had enough trouble with the first lot. The episodes are not crap. They are expansion packs and they are the bridge to HL3 which will come someday. I suspect we'll hear something about EP3 next year. I think we're in for something special. I really do.
Some time ago they said, that they are working with the Source engine to make it look better, i think we will see the results in Left 4 Dead 2 and next year we will get Episode 3, somewhere in the Q4. I think Half Life 3 would use a new engine, they can't patch up the source engine forever
Our kids will get to play Half Life 3. It's probably gonna come out on a new engine, when the next gen of consoles are out.
I have no problem with the episodes - they're awesome - but I'm pretty sure we'll get a full Half-Life 3 game sometime after Episode 3 comes out (it could be a few years later, it could be half a decade later, who knows).Planeforger
Or it could be an entire decade later.

HAHA well said
and it is not like Valve has been slacking off. We get L4D, TF2, constant updates for TF2 with new content, and more.
The Episodes are not ideal, but they are worth the wait and money
We all know that we'll get Half-Life 3 right after Episode 3 comes out, which in turn will come out after Left 4 Dead 4. So, I'd expect around 2018ish.
But joking aside, it'll be worth the wait. After all, it's Valve.
Amen to that, ditch the source eninge and make a new one and half life 3 instead of another episode... Whats your problem dude? -Let me tell you whats my problem, its taking ages to make an episode and they have not even anounce if they work in hl3 which they propably not, so when they anounce that they started working on hl3 it will take ages till they finally complete it. We are a bit running out of time here, the world ends in 2012 :D...but i believe that as always there will be a delay on that too :lol:Anyone else just tired of the episodes and this 5 hour crap, I mean can we get a full game like HL2, its a revolutionary FPS, but Valve is either taking their time or just milking the episodes.

I just hope that Episodes 1 through 3 aren't supposed to be "Half Life 3" and we get an ACTUAL Half Life 3.l0veNa its quite specifically HL2: Episode Two. Anyway, aftert HL2 Ep3 as long as there is a decent ending which wraps stuff up but leaves some ends open, I won't feel the rush to play HL3, and wouldn't mind the wait. As for the wait until ep 3, I'm playing episode two right now so doesn't bother me much.
The episodic structure of the HL2 arc abolutely fails. The whole point was to release expansion packs faster but atm most devs could prob release a full game between HL2 and the release of Hl2:E3. Its only salvaged by the fact that Orange box came with some high quality stuff like tf2 and portal
It will come out eventually. Almost definately on a brand new engine too. Source Engine 2 or whatever.
Hardly milking. Milking would be like "Introducing Ep4: The Animated TV Series!! Starring Danny Glover as the voice of Gordon!! "I'm getting too old for this **** " and a special cameo by Cher herself!!

agreed. They are obviously putting huge amounts of effort into making episode 3 really special. In the same way portal was special.
Idk if they will make a HL3. I really really hope they do. but im not so sure. It will be a long time from now if thats the case. lets say they dont start on HL3 for 2 years. It took them 6 years to make HL2, so i would say we would have to wait 8 years from now for HL3. If it ever happens. Lets prey it does.
The same reason Blizzard has taken years before announcing the release of SC2 and D3. Some developers want to continue raising the bar after releasing an epic video game, others just slap a new name on a series a send it back out. I am sure it will take awhile. But quality over quantity is something that the video game industry does lack at times.
We'll get it as soon as everyone stops making the fat jokes.
So around 2257 when we all turn into energy beings.
Ummm . . . exactly what was "revolutionary" about HL2?slateman_basic

We will get it some day, eventually. I have a bad feeling that Ep: 3 will end with a sneaky comment from the G-man right as something is about to happen, then the screen will go black and it will be the end. Like the end of HL2, but this will be the end of this story arc and we won't know what happens :(

Well, that and the "digital drama" stuff - lipsynching, etc.
I just hope that Episodes 1 through 3 aren't supposed to be "Half Life 3" and we get an ACTUAL Half Life 3.l0veIf anyone knows how to cater to their fans, it's Valve. Valve is one of the few companies I so admire today just because of all the fan service they provide for it's customers. That 55.8% off all Half Life games for instance when Gordon Freeman won the Gamespot vote. I already own all the games, but I absolutely admire them for this kind of stuff; It really shows dedication. With that being said, we will get an actual Half Life 3. It's pretty much set in stone.
the episodes are decent enough but the wait in between is ridiculous. they are just rehashes of the gameplay elements from hl2. fighting zombies, antlions & headcrabs, great in hl2, ok in ep1, boring in ep2. gravity gun puzzles to move objects and navigate over otherwise inaccessible areas? likewise now boring.
then ep2 gives us the sudden introduction of a never before mentioned scientist who has created some "revolutionary" device to fire at the striders which doesnt even have a detontate feature so you have to mess about launching it at one then messing about trying to shoot it to detonate it which is incredibly fiddly. again, boring. the end sequence was such a contrived, seen-it-all-before typical video game ending sequence that i for one was really disappointed. valve are better than that.
hopefully the reason theyre taking their time with ep3 is that theres goin to be a significant inclusion of some new weapons, puzzles, enemies and of course a modern looking graphic engine
