But this is the interwebz where people often confuse their own opinions with fact ;).

Mograine

I don't "confuse my own opinion", anyone that has played Starcraft enough can tell you what I said strictly related to it.

On the other hand, I'd love to hear from you what other game managed to last more than a year or two. I mentioned DoW as the only one that came up in my mind, now's your turn.

Fallout 1 and 2, Wizardry 8, Arcanum, Jagged Alliance 2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, and the CIV games have all had quite a bit of staying power on my computer. There are others (quite a few actually - I mostly only play older games) but those are the first few that sprung to mind but I would never be so presumptuous to think that those games would hold equal value to someone who doesn't like turn-based games or RPGs as much as I do. It's subjective.

As I said in my first post, I don't really like RTS games so Starcraft 2 has absolutely no value to me whatsoever. So, yeah, it's not so black and white.

Damn, how could I forget the first Fallouts -_-

I see your point...I'll have to remember to talk of potential value next time.

Anyway.................................. Starcraft 2 is coming and I am very excited! I can't wait to try it! Starcraft 2 is going to be awesome (hope) and anyone like the RTS style and don't mind about the Sci-fi ambiance will certainly find something cool about this game!

I'll see you online Mograine! I play Protoss XD

I'm not so excited because I don't know what to expect from the game to be, I know original game is still replayed by many gamers like Diablo 2 (such as me), and it is coming from Blizzard who made Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne, so I should expect for a great RTS - long time since I've played one after Red Alert and C&C dumbed down series

I won't be getting it. I'm not a huge fan of RTS, and a game that focuses on "APM" and memorizing maps and the most optimal rotations just seems boring to me. Don't get me wrong, I like action games, and FPS games, but not micro-managing RTS games that rely on clicking a billion times per minute in order to be competitive.

I didn't really like the first game, but I'll probably give the series another chance and get SC2 when I have time and money for it, especially after Blizzard confirmed they're removing what was my biggest gripe with the original (the 12-unit selection limit).

[QUOTE="Animatronic64"]Quality isn't the only deciding factor in what you like. I personally hate a lot of "quality" games. Mograine

What's not to like of StarCraft? It perfectly fits every plays.tyle and leaves everything "strategy" related to the user instead of implementing gimmicks that only bloat the game and kill its longevity (just look at pretty much every other game that has anything to do with RTS...how many lasted for more than a year? On the moment I can only remember of DoW).

Even if you can't get into the "normal" multiplayer like me (I was 6 when I started playing and yes, by playing I mean online), the selection for custom maps is limitless...it'd take me an hour just to list every genre and subgenre, and I used to play ALL of them religiously.

Every time somebody trashtalks StarCraft, I die a little inside :|

Company of Heroes?

There is still a bunch of people playing that game came out in like 2006 and it has as much micro if not more than SC.

Well that's a shame. Then you're missing out on a lot of great games. I like to keep my tastes open so I can experience the best of everything. There's no downside to it. :)

What you're talking about is only relevant in tournaments and competitions. 99.9% of people playing Starcraft don't care about their APM. They just want to have fun and be competitive.

And APM is nowhere near as important in SC2 as it was in the first Starcraft since the units have pathing beyond "walk in a straight line and if you bump into something turn around and find a new way" meaning you don't need to babysit your units anymore. You still need to micro them in battles, and high APM players will always be better at that (and at keeping their Macro going at the same time) but it's still not as important as the first game. If you watch the APM counts for competitive SC2 players during the beta, their APM was far lower than their SC APM (Usually by a good 100 or so) unless they were spamming clicks, solely because you don't NEED that many actions anymore.

Wrong... because they are region based and because latency play a HUGE part in the prof gaming tournamnets. You will most likely not see people play in other regions...

I didn't think latency mattered all that much in strategy games until I saw how freaking fast those asian pros play, it's completely insane xD.

Of course but I will go digital download. It will be more expensive if I buy it retail (if it is in Panama anyways, PC gaming was never born in this country anyways).

I'll definately get it . . . . . . in a couple years when all three campaigns are released in a battle chest. I play my games for story and I don't want to play one third of a story arc and have to wait goodness knows how long before the other two are released. I'm still waiting for HL 2: Episode 3.

I'm not getting it, at least not right now. I go in phases for RTS games. I went 2-3 months where I played nothing but....However, I haven't touched a RTS game in almost 6 months and I don't see myself doing so anytime soon. One day I might say, "Hey, I really want to play StarCraft 2." as I'm hammering things out in another RTS. To those that do get the game, I hope you enjoy.

No LAN is a really big pity for me, me and my brother were going to get it and play together through LAN but I don't know how that will work anymore. If the expansions add a lot of conent though than I have no issue with them, if they truly are each larger than SC 1 than that is money well spent.

Doubtful. A top-down view is somewhat outdated and unrealistic. I prefer first or third-person views in a game, that's more realistic.

However, I wouldn't mind it if I had the option of zooming in and out, like in DA:O.

Which worked quite well actually. Would be interesting to see something similar in SC2 - however, I guess we all know that that ain't gonna happen.
