Poll Will you be playing Path of Exile when it launches on October 23rd? (40 votes)

Yes -- I've been playing open beta and enjoying it. 28%
Yes -- It looks interesting and I'm willing to try it out. 10%
Maybe -- I haven't decided yet. 30%
No -- I played open beta and I didn't care for it. 15%
No -- I have no interest in Path of Exile. 10%
No -- I don't like hack-and-slash ARPGs. 8%

I played it several months ago and I'm considering jumping in at launch. I assume they'll do a big character wipe after Open Beta ends, but I'm not 100% sure. It's a great alternative for everyone who was disappointed in Diablo 3 and longs for a modernized Diablo 2-like experience.

What are your thoughts?

PoE was a beta the whole time? I never played it, but I thought that it was just a free game for people to play.

I played the beta about 5-6 months ago and the combat was really off, like my hits wouldn't register or something.

Is this a design thing or just because it was beta?

I was not impressed with the beta at all. I think I would have liked it a lot better if the map wasn't so horrid.

I heard you can't reset skill points nor attributes and I don't like that. But I think I will still enjoy the game regardless.

@sethman410: That's not true. For one, skills are gems, which are socketed into items, and level up on their own. So they can be swapped around and set up however you want, as long as you have enough sockets in your equipped gear. As for attributes, the only way to increase them is with certain spots on the passive skill tree. Passive skill points can be refunded through "refund points", which you get throughout the game, sometimes as quest rewards, but usually in the form of the "Orb of Regret" items, which drop from time to time. Also, I don't really know of any other ARPGs where you have any more options than that for resetting skills or attributes.

On topic: I've been playing off and on for about a year and a half, since getting invited to the closed beta, and I love it. It keeps improving all the time, and if they polish out the few remaining kinks (which I'm sure they will), it's well on its way toward being the best iso-ARPG there is.

Also, to respond to the OP, they are not doing any more character wipes. The final one was done for the transition from closed beta to open beta. All characters that currently exist will continue into the full game. That was mentioned on the site during the open beta launch, and confirmed by one of the developers when I asked in the in-game chat.

Apparently they are but, like other images, they're limited to being tiny. That's like... not even a third as big as mine used to be.

I've played a bit of the open beta and I enjoyed what I played. I still prefer games like Torchlight 2 but it makes a nice change.

Nah, I'm bored of Action RPGs that want me to grind eternally, and MMORPGs. gone back to shooters mainly. TF2 and BF4. I just don't see the point in wasting 100s of hours for a piece of gear anymore. when the majority of the grind is not fun.

Not really my sort of addiction. I never got hooked on it. Level design and models were pretty bland too.

I played the beta once and I really didn't like it. But I'm willing to give it another try.

I'm hoping they explain everything in the game a bit better, because in the beta you had to go on the internet and read up on everything yourself.

Definitely. I've been playing it on and off during open beta. It's a great game if you're really into experimenting with different character builds, there's so many different ways to do things. It's not a casual game, it's purposefully targeted towards the hardcore aRPG crowd, that's why a lot of people are turned off by it.

Felipe, if you're missing in the beginning, it's because there's an accuracy rating. You will swing slow and miss quite often in the beginning until you get decent gear and/or use certain gems/passive skills.

The dev team behind the game is great, and the game will only improve moving forward. It's also one of the best examples of "free to play" done right.

I will be starting in the new default league that has a new economy. Everyone starts at zero there.

I tried it once, didn't click with me. I'll probably try it again when it officially releases, see what polish they've added to it.

I don't mind a game going for the hardcore. But I just felt I was totally lost when I played the beta. I do hope this final release has some sort of tutorial and some more text messages explaining the mechanics.

I'm just not the type of gamer that likes to read pages of text on internet sites to get the faintest clue of how to play the game properly.
