I don't particularly want it - that is to say, I'm not super excited about it or anything - but I will probably buy it, if only to see if it lived up to other people's expectations.

The trial made me feel good about preordering the full Creature Creator a couple of weeks ago. Knowing how just that little part alone works (and that Wright said the items editor works the same way), I'm sure that this will be a very addictive game. I just made my preorder about 10 minutes ago and will be waiting tonight to grab my full copy of the Creature Creator. ^_^

Yeah, I will most likely buy it, I was thinking about pre-ordering it from D2D. If you purchase the creature creator and spore together you get $5 off. But I kind of want an actual copy of the game.

Depends.. i'll wait till after the game is released and the initial "omgz its the best" topics are all finished. Once people get over the initial awe factor of the game and see the game for what it is, and then i get to read if its still good or not, then i'll decide to pick it up. As it is now, the game looks good, but i just have far to many games to play as it is.

Bioshock had crappy DRM too, did you miss out on that?

I understand that you have an opposition to DRM, but hey, at least it's not too draconian (in most cases).

Also, I'd take SecuROM over Starforce anyday. I refuse to buy games that have Starforce on it. SecuROM isn't too bad.

Which is why I'm not an RTS or civ/city sim fan. I'm lazy, and that **** is just too much work. In any event, there has been little info on the actual gameplay, ie, what you actually DO in the game from minute to minute, so I'll wait until all the reviews are in and the hype has died down.

Yes, if only to see if Will Wright met his ambitions. I was really excited about the game two years ago (even made my own video), but since then I've become somewhat skeptical and jaded.

I bought Bioshock and then found out about the online activation crap and all the rest of it. That game is now in a crate shoved in a cupboard, never to see the light of day. I had a big headache trying to remove that SecuROM crap from my PC as well, with it's null registry entries, and files buried in hidden directories using illegal characters. I blame SecuROM for killing one of my DVD drives.

As for 'not too draconian', some people have already burned through the 3 activations for Mass Effect. They had problems with the game so tried reinstalling their OS and upgrading their graphics card - unfortunately that burned through all their activations. They can't get any joy out of EA customer support to get new activations. One guy played the game for two days and is now locked out of it, with a message popping up on screen telling him to repurchase the game.

EA also refuse to say how many activations you have left, and what will trigger another activation. As it happens 'in the background', you as the consumer are never informed - and one day you'll hit the limit and then have this message pop up on screen.

If you want to buy into that crap, which EA has already said will be a part of all future PC games they publish, including Spore, then go ahead. Just don't reinstall/upgrade your OS or alter any hardware in your PC and you'll be fine.

And no - you can't 'buy back' activations by uninstalling. The activation is tied directly to your hardware and OS.
