Windows 7 has worked for me so far. I used the beta for about 6 months before I bought the retail. Even in beta I never ran into any issues. My only concern is that Microsoft worked with the NSA to develop security features for WIndows 7. Alot of people are saying Microsoft developed a backdoor in Windows 7 so the government can track peeps. I am not sure if it is true or not but that was what I read. The link below is where I read it at.

I am wondering the same thing. 2GB is as high as my system can go, so I am curious as to whether or not Vista will help.Does it use less ram then Vista? I have 2gb of ram right now with Vista, and i am just wondering how much of a performance increase there would be (if any) if i upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista.

If you really think Windows 7 is that good, you must like Vista quite a bit too. I have Win7 on my laptop, and I don't see a major difference from Vista so far. I honestly don't even know how they're calling it a new OS.. should've been a service pack update for Vista or something.
Linux.ferret-gamerThat's a collection of OSes, i think you have to specify.

u wont notice a huge differenec if u clean installed vista. but if ur going from a bloatware cramped vista from a manufacturer (ie HP, compaq, Toshiba, etc) and doing a clean install, then u'll notice a massive increase.
I felt it was a good step up when I installed the RC on my laptop. With Vista and only 2GB RAM, it was a struggle to do menial things like surf the web. 7 just felt like it didn't eat up as much of my resources, resulting in a smoother experience.
Granted, Vista 64 runs like a charm on my desktop, so I don't feel the need to upgrade just yet.
No way, that's Windows ME! [QUOTE="ferret-gamer"]Linux.X360PS3AMD05That's a collection of OSes, i think you have to specify. I would say the majority of them are preferable to windows
I have windows 7 64bit on 2gb ram. It's runs great any game (crysis bf2, etc) on idle it uses 600mb to 700 mb :)Does it use less ram then Vista? Well as long as you aren't a terrorist or doing something illegal, you have nothing to worry about :D

I have a Gateway. It came somewhat crammed but I got rid of a lot of the useless stuff. As is on Vista 32 with 2GB RAM it runs pretty well.[QUOTE="ferret-gamer"][QUOTE="X360PS3AMD05"] That's a collection of OSes, i think you have to specify. NotAFurryI would say the majority of them are preferable to windows What about MacOS? ;) Well Macs after 10.5 are Unix(their kernel), and their exes are mounted in virtual drives when you run them for nice security, so yes they are nice. Except the people who use them are complete dolts, which is why I won't own one. Though I am going to try a hackintosh on my vostro 1310 laptop when it comes back from Dell. (I am goign to have best of both worlds, Windows, FreeBsd, Debian, and Mac OSX) Though it's going to be fun messing with the boot loader :(
I believe Win 7 uses ram according to how much ram you have. If you have 4 gigs it will use more then if you have 2gigs.Does it use less ram then Vista? You can keep your dollar, I failed miserably. That hackintosh cd I got which was theoritcally made just for the vostro 1310/1320... lol.
1. No mouse or keyboard unless I use a usb keyboard and mouse.
2. Bad drivers for 8400mgs
3. No wireless card supprot
Time to say: macs suck
(I am sure I could get everything working EXCEPT the keyboard and touchpad, but what's the point of a laptop with an unusable keyboard and touchpad)?
I don't know, man. I hated Vista, but I find Win7 quite tolerable. If only Microsoft would stop with the cartoonish themes, they drive me crazy. dumbassjones made the best themes for XP, if only Balmer had taken a look at some of them before designing the theme for Win7. I would so use Slackware day and night if more games were available for the Linux kernel. If you really think Windows 7 is that good, you must like Vista quite a bit too. Windows 7 is just Vista SP2 with a few performance and visual tweaks.
Congratulations, you love Vista, which was never that bad of an OS.

EXACTLY. This guy gets it. Can anyone please point out what they like so much better about 7 than Vista? Because all 7 seems to be is an update to Vista that Microsoft is marketing and selling as a "new" OS. I have both.. there's really not much new here!

Tell me what is so different about Win 7 that makes it so much better for you than Vista. Because I can put the 2 right next to each other and use them almost identically.

Vista was a bloated mess. Sure, 7 is still bloated, but it's not as bloated. And 7 seems to deal with hardware a lot better, like uses its resources more efficiently than Vista did. Vista is sluggish. 7 is not. Vista felt jerky. 7 did not. A lot of the annoyances in Vista, like UAC were much more easier to deal with in 7. I couldn't ever quite get Vista to work the way I wanted it to, but I hardly even needed to do anything to 7 to get it to work the way I wanted it. That's just my experiences with them.Truth,,,Windows 7 is very nice, but it is basically a refined Vista.Windows 7 is just Vista SP2 with a few performance and visual tweaks.
Congratulations, you love Vista, which was never that bad of an OS.
