windows 7 home or professional?

What is the difference between home and professional? besides the price... I looked at the info on them from newegg and they seem about the same. There was the ultimate also, but thats the most expensive and is probably not needed.

Pro is nice if you have a home network set up as there are less restrictions and more options, but for the majority of users it's not necessary. And Ultimate is just overkill.DJ_Lae

BitLocker is kind of overkill. A simple user account password would already stop casual theifs. Causal theif will just reinstall pirate OS and sell it. BitLocker is mostly for high officials where they can order FBI to catch the guy before theif crack the code (since it takes really long time and difficult to crack it).magicalclick

I got Pro for 29.99. Should have gotten it when it was on sale. I don't know a soul that use bitlocker.
