What is the difference between home and professional? besides the price... I looked at the info on them from newegg and they seem about the same. There was the ultimate also, but thats the most expensive and is probably not needed.

This was literally the second result on google when I typed in "Windows 7 comparison". The first result was the intro page to the one I just linked.

that looks like a great deal but I am looking for the 64 bit version. Do they have that one for the same price?http://www.outletdeal.com/product.php?eid=10115&ags=6&slot=136081

Basically unless you know exactly why you want Professional or Ultimate, you don't need it. Everything you need is on the Home version. Only fairly advanced or really intensive network tools are available on Professional/Ultimate that would make it necessary. So unless you're running a Windows Print Server with SAMBA support, you probably don't need Pro.What is the difference between home and professional? besides the price... Pro is nice if you have a home network set up as there are less restrictions and more options, but for the majority of users it's not necessary. And Ultimate is just overkill.DJ_LaeNot really. Ultimate is only $20 more and comes with Bitlocker and Bitlocker to go which can be very useful
BitLocker is kind of overkill. A simple user account password would already stop casual theifs. Causal theif will just reinstall pirate OS and sell it. BitLocker is mostly for high officials where they can order FBI to catch the guy before theif crack the code (since it takes really long time and difficult to crack it).magicalclickIts great for USB keys though

I may have slightly skewed views on Windows pricing, though, I paid $40 for Pro through my university, and they didn't offer Ultimate, which made the leap closer to $200 for me at the time.
