I've been using it occasionally for general use. It's superb, but I've noticed a few minor issues.

- It doesn't shut down or restart. It freezes on the "Shutting Down" message. It's like it doesn't get round to telling the motherboard to switch off or reboot, so I have to do it manually. It works in safe mode, so it must be a compatibility issue with some software or drivers on my system.

- I've tried one game on it so far, which is Race Driver GRID. The performance is noticeably slower than XP.

- A couple of times, the sound has become a distorted garbled mess, which requires a restart to fix. Probably an issue with M-Audio or Creative drivers. It rarely happens now on the RC, but it happened all the time on the beta.

Other than that, great OS. Love the interface improvements and the generally great performance of the OS itself. Will definitely buy when it's released.

With my sig rig it doesn't appear to run much faster than vista doing general stuff, games performance is on par with XP, and should only get better because it's still only an RC build I'm using. The whole new interface is very fun to use and more practical than xp/vista's. Lots of new features, and its basically as the M$ guy says on wiki "Windows 7 is an improved version of Vista" under the hood that is making it "smarter" at handling resources, much more scalable, the actual interface is almost completely new and a step in a new direction, it works too.

http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/windows_7.aspsee here, and check out some youtube video's, you can even go to M$'s site and download the RC version to burn to a dvd.

Been using it as my only OS for a bit now.... no complaints other than Neverwinter Nights 2 not working on it, but so far every other game and application works fine. Not noticed any speed difference compared to Vista, but didn't expect any. In some places i think it's a bit messy but i'm pretty sure it'll be tidied up when the final release comes along.

I think most people with lower end systems will notice a speed boost, vista runs fine on 2gb ram and a core 2 duo, but those with lower hardware specs, would benefit more from 7's efficiency.

Love it.

I've had no major problems with the beta except that my HP C6280 printer had no working drivers and my Logitech MX5500 mouse and keyboard utility software also did not work. Now with the RC edition my mouse and keyboard software works but the printer still has no drivers. Luckly my printer is networked so I can print from my wife's laptop. Other than that, the OS is fast, stable and sexy.

Haven't used it much, but boy is it gorgeous. Haven't tried gaming on it yet either, but I've been hearing nothing but good things since people have been trying it. Once Microsoft delivers on the drivers part of things, Windows 7 will help Microsoft reclaim their mighty OS position after dropping the ball with Vista (which in itself isn't that bad).

I've used server 2k8 R2 which is essentially Windows 7, and it blows 2k8 out of the water, switched my home server from 2k3 to 2k8 R2 RC1, I just hope they let you switch the liscence key form the RC to Retail without reformatting.

We have been testing it at work now with various laptops and business desktops. So far it seems to be doing a pretty good job doing daily administrative tasks. We have tested it on a IBM Thinkpad which actually seemed to boot a lot faster and responds quite nicely to user inputs. I have it running at hope on a Macbook Pro with bootcamp and it seems to use resources a lot better then what Vista Business was using. I was suprised it found the Mac specific hardware drivers from the net like for things like airport so I didn't have to re-insert the leopard dvd to make them work.

Well, the user interface could use an update, and the XP start menu was better. But I'm not getting hacked and harrassed by people when I do some online gaming and reveal my IP, so I must say that I am impressed. And so far, games have run better in Windows 7. So I guess that the whole DX9L Vista upgrade wasn't just hype!

The biggest problem ive ran into with the RC is that the sleep mode doesnt work. When it wakes back up it will usually just sit there and you have to do a hard reboot to bring it back. It also runs games fine except for atleast with GalCiv 2 before it launches it gives like 3 warning that it doesnt have the right DX9 and it may not run properly but it does and just fine.

Sleep mode does not work in my vista. It will blue screen, and keep doing it for 3-4 times till it decides to work like normal. Then I won't see another blue screen till I accidentally click it again in the future. Other than that, Win 7 looks nice, runs fast, and is the service pack vista needs... just don't know how much I want to spend on said service pack

Ive also noticed that GS in FireFox atleast seems a bit buggy sometimes. Even in this msg while im typing the blinking cursor will go somewhere else and ill need to reclick and sometimes when i click on a page i have to hit refresh to make it go. Though firefox is already buggy with GS anyways so i guess i should expect that.

If you have the retail version of Vista, you can sell it to help pay for the upgrade ;)

It is the upgrade version, but yea... better than OEM I guess. I heard they were going to have lower prices for people that had proof of purchase of Vista, but I have not kept up with that news.

I think that is wishful thinking. At best they may help out the people who bought a new computer within a couple of months of Win7 with Vista or people who bought the retail vista also within a couple of months of Win7 release. For the people that have Vista right now probably wont get anything especially people with OEM copies.

I dont know what you are talking about. I have the 64bit RC and from a full shutdown it can be started up and i can be surfing on FireFox in just over a minute. I also have the i7 with 6gb of ram but thats no super computer. Also it is a free testing OS so you can only be so critical on it.

I read that you have to have Vista Ultimate to get the discount... I'm not sure if it's true or not though.

same here the screen just stays black, probably more to do with hardware than software.

eh? e8400 and 2x 7950gt's. DX9 cards have supposedly always ran games better in Vista than XP though (DX9L). Windows 7 uses "Direct3D 10 Level 9," which I'm guessing is an even biger improvement for people with DX9 cards...

You're such a liar, my mother has a Celeron D CPU, 1GB of ram, and onboard video and Windows 7 runs superbly on it. lol, I think you need to look into your own hardware for issues. Now after saing that, I will say that when playing shockwave games the CPU usage stays at 100%..that to me is crazy!

Vista is starting to remind me XP. Random bsod and now it won' shut down when I want it to. Windows 7 on the other hand is faster, uses less RAM and works perfectly for me. Only some software is not compatible. I feel cheated. I paid for an inferior OS when I could have gotten a better one for free.

Other than a handful of bizarre problems (that have simple workarounds) I have no complaints with either version of Windows 7. Where the 32bit version is absolutely rock-solid with no driver conflicts on my laptop, there are some USB and network card problems with the 64bit version on my desktop. I've had to uninstall the adapter twice as it stopped connecting to the internet (even though it could see my network fine), and I have to wait five or ten seconds after coming out of sleep mode before tapping enter to log onto my user account, or it starts complaining that it doesn't recognize the USB hub in my monitor any more. Simple enough to avoid, and I think the network issue is caused by the USB one, and going back into sleep mode without fixing it, as the whole computer will hang at that point, requiring a hard reset.
