okay, so i installed w7 a few months back, and the result was that i got really bad fps problems. Now on xp, i didnt have that much fps anyway, around 60-70 on CoD4, but now, i barely get 20. I was hoping somone with a good mind for tech could help me out here, i can afford some upgrades, i just dont know which ones i need, and although switching back to XP is an option, it sucks how i cant record my voice as well as a game on fraps with XP. (I like to make videos you see)

Here are my stats: Operating System MS Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1 CPU Intel Pentium D 820 SmithField 90nm Technology RAM 2.0GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 333MHz (5-5-5-15) Motherboard ELITEGROUP COMPUTER SYSTEM CO.,LTD. 945G-M3 (Socket 775) Graphics Samsung SyncMaster 1100p Plus(T) (1024x768@60Hz) ATI Radeon HD 5450 Hard Drives 161GB Hitachi HDT722516DLA380 ATA Device (SATA) 44 °C Optical Drives HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10A ATA Device DTSoftBusCd00 Audio Realtek High Definition Audio

ah there is one very simple reason for this

you see every release of windows has whats called directx all games use it okay

windows 7 use directx11, vista is 10, xp is 9 and so on.

now your gpu is an hd 5450 and it is dx11 compliant meaning that if availale it will run in dx11 if not then it will default to the next highest setting as allowed by the game and OS

cod4 has support for directx 9 & 10 but regretably you cant pick which your running it on unlike some games where you can 9exmaples include source engine games, crysis and stalker

if this sounds confusing ill try and make it easier for you with a small listing

windows 7: direct x 11, 10, 9,8..

hd 5450: directx 11,10,9,8..

cod4: directx 9, 10

the HIGHEST number all 3 have in common then is the verison of directx your running

which would be 10

directx 10 is from vista and well its a resource hog.. a big ugly warpig it consumes resources needlessly and it offers little return over te much more efficient dx9 or its successor 11. now this sint the only thing to blame before you go assuming that windows is at fault... its not

your cpu is poor and your gpu is underpowered.

so here is what i recommend you do.. from me to you

buy this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102875&cm_re=hd_5570-_-14-102-875-_-Product

install like so (get the drivers off the amd website):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9x097QRXeA

this should fix what ails youas this card is far more capabe of playing games in dx10 and 11

i then suggest saving up for a cpu & motherboard upgrade as both NEED to go

yor barely meeting modern system requirements

Your rig is fine for windows 7 and simple tasks like Web Browsing etc. But for gaming you'll need a better CPU and GPU.

Your CPU is out of date, your graphics card is not really ideal for games, and your RAM is quite slow. It's all fine for Windows 7 on its own, but for games you really need something much better.

Yeah Windows has moved with the technology, 2Gb of RAM is not really good to be honest these days, sure 5 years ago when XP was the standard it was very good for gaming but now your PC is very underpowered as Windows uses more resources and it also steals some GPU power for Windows tasks, just think when Windows 8 comes out your PC will probably be supported under "Legacy Components" in terms of drivers and such. Just spend a few quid getting the GPU as stated above if you can, and further down the down get a better Mobo, CPU and more RAM it shouldnt be too expensive for light gaming.

you did install the latest graphic drivers and they are for win7 not the xp ones? you gpu is rather weak and 2gb is on the low end for win7. go into msconfig and disable all the junk that automaticlly startsup when you boot windows, it can save lots of ram, and why did you get the 32bit version of win7?

Try to update latest hardware drivers and take some pc optimization software like tuneup utilities, auslogics disk defrag and so on to optimize it. If your pc have bad experiences with aero, just turn it off and if you'll think that the ultimate version is too heavy for your pc, just reformat and use the home premium or professional version.

Also, turn off the Aero desktop if you have it running.
