Just curious so I can start saving up since I know it wont be cheap to purchase it. I do have Windows 7 RC running and love it and will make the final upgrade. I also kept my Win XP 64-bit as a bootable OS... anyways I plan to purchase the Windows 7 Ultimate Edition and wonder how much it will set me back.

Thanks!

They released prices. 250$ for the standard, then some ultimate type addition for 300$. Lucky for me I get all this free (legally) :D.

What's the big desperation of getting a new OS as soon as it comes out? It's not like a new game....it's a complete overhaul of your system. Just wait until the first bugs are fixed, or the service packs come out so you don't waste time with things that don't work...

Well it supposedly is a lot better with games and gives you a performance boost in a lot of areas. I'll be getting it day it comes out (thank god for my dads work so I get it free: D).

I believe it will be better for games... but I doubt it will be better than XP. Still, just a bit more performance but a pain with programs, devices etc....nah, I can wait....

I'm running the latest release candidate right now. I chose to upgrade from Vista instead of doing a fresh format like I normally would out of laziness and the transition has been absolutely seamless. Booting and shutting down is faster and the general feel of the windows is more responsive. The interface also seems more refined. Actual in-game performance has been approximately the same as on Vista; Nvidia does not yet have a new driver specifically for WIndows 7 (it lists Windows 7 separately, but the driver it links to is the same as the latest availalbe for Vista).

You do know that a fresh install will make W7 run better than an upgrade.... (just checking)

Oh trust me I won't be buying this until my RC expires sometime next year, and I believe its launching at the end of this year.

I've heard about that....but I reckon the final version won't come out until the RC expires....and then a few months after that....

Already is better than XP, any games that take advantage of DX11 will find it too be a massive performance boost yet retain the looks of DX10.

So it's not ALREADY better....since there are no games that take advantage of DX11. I believe W7 will do very well, much better than Vista....but not next year, but a couple of years down the track....

It is better, but I was just adding that little segment on DX11, that means Vista would get a nice boost as well.

That's what I am trying to ask.... WHY is it better right now. Why is W7 in RC state better than XP which has had 3 service packs and has been around for 8 years? I really don't think W7 can be better than XP right now.... don't get me wrong, I am not bagging 7, since I really want it to become the next XP...I just believe it needs a couple of years on the market to reach that.
