Who is going to get Windows 7 and why?

If you are not going to,then why not?

Has anyone pre-ordered it and where from and how much for did you get it?

Is anyone planning on getting it and where from, where is the cheapest place?

Oh and which one did you get, Home, Professionsl or Ultimate and why?

Thanks.

The upgrade preorder deal is done, so the cheapest way of getting it now would probably be to buy the OEM version when it comes out, or the OEM version of Vista that includes Windows 7 when it's released. I bought one Home upgrade for my girlfriend's computer although I have no OS on my new computer so I'll just buy an OEM version (probably Home, but I do like some of Ultimate's features) when it comes out, or shortly after.

Well I got the RC(waiting for my DVD drive to arrive), then I'll use that as long as I can. Then eventually I buy the cheapest version.

I pre-ordered it for 2 reasons:

1: It was cheap

2: Iam planning on getting a SSD eventually and Win7 has special tech that makes it considerably faster compared to being on other OS's.

3: It was cheap!

I've pre-ordered Home Premium from Amazon.

Had no need for Professional. The only thing I was interested in was Windows XP mode, but then I found out it had no game support, and also that my CPU doesn't support virtualization, so there was no point.

Not getting it until next year probably. I want to wait for the drivers to be up to par with Vista. Besides 7 is the same as Vista only with UAC and super caching disabled. And I'm perfecly happy with Vista Ultimate.

automated backup, better business networking and you can run a virtual xp and have bit locking on your drive to stop people accessing them. basically backup and security.

Just something interesting for you, incase you didn't know. If you don't currently have an OS, you can install windows 7 RC, then buy the upgrade version instead of having to buy the full version. :D

I pre-ordered the European version (Windows 7 Professional E). It is the full version and not an upgrade version . It cost £ 99.

The "E" version has later been discontinued, so I will just get the regular full version.

I'm running the RC version 64 bit, working very nicly, I havent pre-ordred it yet though, I missed out on the discount deal, I wanted ultimate but it wasnt available at the special rate they had for the two other versions, so I'll wait and see if there is anything else I can do when the time comes. I am going to miss XP though, maybe I'll keep a partition with it installed for nostalgia.

its not 100% complete. It's nearly done, and they just wanted to test it and to see if people like it.

But remeber to install the RC version you want to buy the update for! If you install W7 Ultimate RC and apply a W7 Home Premium update, it WILL require an reinstall.

It will require a clean install anyway. Only Vista users have the option to upgrade without reinstalling and only if they upgrade to the same version.

I stand partly corrected. An update from Vista will not require a reinstall if they upgrade to same OR higher version.
