Which OS is better for gaming? Apparently Ultimate is geared more for business, but I have the urge to utilize DX11.

mate, after using windows 7, you won't be able to go back to xp. i have ultimate, but you don't really need it; home premium 64-bit is more than enough for home use and gaming
Home Premium Win 7. Newest OS, with the all the support you need for games (until Windows 8 comes out anyway).
Nothing wrong with Xp but only if you use the 32 bit version. 64 bit XP is a JOKE!!! (Application nightmare + Os is just overall BAD). If you got with power, go with windows 7. If you want great performance but lacking ram or on slightly older hardware, go with xp 32 bit and nlite it up. I still miss my 10 sec boot on my XP nlite :(
I must be one of the only people who loves Vista. I recently upgraded my PC to Windows 7Ultimate 64 bit and it runs like crap. My PC is completely clean and has enough power to run 7. Vista ran great on my PC and I will be going back to that real soon :) Im not trolling Windows 7 I swear, it just constantly freezes for me :(JuggaloRandall
Your hardware could be failing. Win 7 is generally rock solid. Generally.

DX 11 is found in all versions of Windows 7. No need for ultimate.

I'm aware of that. It's just that in this situation, I have the option to either get Ultimate at a discounted price or XP.
Ultimate. XP needs to die permanently. Its like the living dead. It needs to be decapitated.

I wouldn't go that far. It's still a useful OS for older applications and games that hate Vista or Win7 and both my desktops have it as a secondary/back up OS.[QUOTE="desertpython"][QUOTE="mkDSpro63"]

DO NOT use Win7 Ultimate, unless you have read wikipedia on the features and you totally know what you are doing. But, my bet is, you only need Home PreniumEdition..

Yeah. Home Premium should be enough, except I can get Ultimate cheaper and I'm a bit tight on my budget since I'm building a comp from scratch. Wouldn't I be good with Ultimate as long as I don't touch all the extra features like BitLocker Drive Encryption? I do want to utilize my quad-core better as well.

If you can get Ultimate for cheaper than Home Premium, then go for it. Generally thats not the case and very, very few people ever make use of the unqiue features of Ultimate and is rarely recommended over the other versions.
7 Ultimate over XP anyday.
I have Ultimate and I don't use it's feature but like yourself I got it real cheap. It really comes down to 7 vs XP though and 7 is vastly superior.

no please do tell. :D
XP+nlite = so dang awesome. If you on new hardware, def go windows 7 but if you on a older rig or older hardware, the performance of XP can be extreme. Nothing better then the pic below and 10 second boot time (explorer.exe I ran in a .bat to turn off anytime I turned a game on). I got so much dang performance versus x86 windows vista and windows 7 (multibooted) on my old E7400, gts 250, 2 gigs of ram, western digital 250 hd. Offcourse once I built my new rig, windows 7 was the way to go. 64 bit is a joke on XP, 7 runs newer achitectures of cpu's better and threading is better. Still though, never discount XP. It can be a great OS expecially the x86 version of it.
XP+nlite = so dang awesomejedikevin2nlite was too much effort for too little pay off. If you want a fast boot time with win7 then just put your computer to sleep and your boot time will be less than a second. My only real issue with 7 is all the prossesses and services it runs in the background. OK, maybe they don't effect performance (I guess?), but it's just impossible to tell what is what. And I just know that I don't need half of them running.
Windows 7 by far. I've been using it since feb, and it has been as solid as a rock, and as fast as a cheetah! :P You will never even want to look at XP again once you have 7. Trust me.

basiclly over in asia there are stores where you can buy Wii's that have been hacked/modded to run windows xp. they sue some oddall hardware and vista onward wont run but xp and 98 do.
which remiands me TC 7 also has fewer malicious tings that can harm it.. to date 1 rootkit and a handful of virus's n spyware xp.. twas broken a while back.
