I have windows vista home premium 64-bit and i am getting an error everytime i start my computer that my C:\windows\resources\themes\aero file is corrupted and can not be read. its the only vista theme my computer has and now that it doesn't load my windows looks like win 98 is there anyway to fix this without haveing to reinstall windows? its not the first time windows has given me a bad file, last time it started doing it with msn msger untill eventually my wlan quit working, my computer comanys solution was to reinstall windows, but that is a pain. I have no idea why this is happening but its getting on my nerves. thanks to anyone who can help.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/obka4k credit goes to cheifjunior, unrar and save the file in your windows/resources/themes folder, it will replace the existing corrupt file with the freshly downloaded working file.

can a bad hard drive cause corrupt files at start up? This computer is new and i really hope they didn't ship it with crap parts. something is wrong and its either vista x64 or the hhd and i can't tell. All i've done on here is install steam and a game or 2 from there, combat arms, go to this site and really thats it, I surf and do email on my other comp.

Yup it definately can, run chkdsk /r in the recovery section when you boot from your disc.

when i first got vista, i installed it on my hard drive and it was slow but no corrupt files, the reason why it was like this was because i had a bugger hard drive, and the files not writing correctly to your drive is either your hard drive or the actual disc, most people dont have problems with vista anymore.

i ran chkdsk and it listed 9 errors really quicky and shut down, it wont stay open long enough for me to read it though. Do you think i should call up the computer company i got it from and see if they will replace the hard drive?

It shouldn't shut off, did you get a blue screen? Something does not seem right, if the hard drive was faulty the computer shouldn't shut off, hell you can use a computer completely functional without a hard drive(if you are running off a live cd ) Might possibly be a virus, but it's probably a failing hard drive, I just am not sure why it would shut off.

Sounds very much like its a bad hard drive, im experiencing a very simular problem where im having to reformat and reinstall windows. Even after ive reformatted and ran things like chkdsk, fixboot and fixmbr, i still get problems which prevent me from booting up, and i have to reinstall windows. Im ordering a new HDD as soon as i can.
