I'm having a problem with the Vista version of Microsoft Movie Maker. Whenever I try to "Publish" my video, the final product has a blank black screen for a majority of the play-time. To avoid confusion, I'm making a FEAR montage.

FRAPS was used to record footage. I screened all video files in the FRAPS folder to ensure they recorded correctly. Uploading and editing worked smoothly. Once my project was completed, I could view the entire video within Movie Maker without any problems. I've tried using different bit-rates, playback speed, turning video filters on/off, changing the save destination, and even remade the entire video. Nothing is working. It *always* goes blank when a new scene plays. It seems the scene and time are not related though.

Any suggestions or ideas?

it might be because fraps' raw footage is so freakin huge. use virtual dub or something to make them smaller managable wmv videos first.

The files are huge, but that isn't the source of my trouble. Just an example: a 20mb clip may not transcode through Movie Maker whereas a 150mb clip works fine. I have set the compression to the maximal level, but to no avail.

I do have Media Coder, but after already restarting my video editing, I'm reluctant to do so again. Is there any way around this/any other ideas?

what file type are they in. if not wmv:

1. use media coder to make them wmv
2. remove the originals from their location
3. put the new ones labled the same thing where the originals were
4. if you get red Xs, re-link them to the new ones.

then try rendering it again.

FRAPS records video in .avi format. It transfers flawlessly, but I will take up your advice and keep you posted. One question, though. What sound format is compatible with Movie Maker without sacrificing quality?
