Windows screen doesn't fit to monitor

Around my desktop, I've got a lovely black space not being used. The resolution is correct (1920x1080), but for some reason the window doesn't want to stretch to the edge of my monitor. I had this problem when I first built my PC. Somehow I fixed it, but I don't remember how and now it's back. I can't find any options to fix in the control panel or AMD Vision Control, and for some reason the menu option on my monitor is not letting me change the aspect ratio. Please help.

What was your solution? It might come in handy just in case I run into a similar problem and what I suggested didn't work.
