I have used both Vista x32 and x64(currently using x64) and I really don't see much of a difference performance wise. There definitely not the same... For example most applications install to the "Program Files (x86)" folder unless there nativly 64-bit. I have noticed that memory usage easily surpasses 2GB ram, atleast on my system with 6GB RAM.

Usually apps run better when designed for x64 in a x64 environment, otherwise there's no difference with x86 apps.

The only difference I'd worry about is the capability to have over 4gb of ram. At 6gb though, once you get that high you can completely disable your paging file without worry and reap the extra speed of not having to wait for the longer reading time of the hard drive.
