The other day my sister was on the family PC and it crashed. When I restart it, it gives the error message of the missing or corrupt windows/system32/config/system. I put the OS disk in and use the repair option and when i do that, all i get is a BSOD. I have also tried reinstalling windows but all that gets me is a BSOD as well. This PC is running windows XP home edition, and has never given any problems before. Im pretty sure all the hardware is intact because BIOS works fine and reads all of the hardware and i have also tried using the memory from my PC in, but that didnt change anything. If this problem cant be fixed, let me know.

Any help is appreciated

Not saying that this will work, but it's a place to start. Follow this link to Microsoft. They give a step by step process on how to try and fix your missing or corrupt file issue.

Try putting the windows xp cd and creating a new boot sector. You have to go to the repair screen like you did to repair it, and type the command in the prompt. It may say you could lose your information, but I have done this multiple times and it has never affected the disk. That will almost certainly fix your problem.

A blue screen of death during a system repair indicates a software problem, I think. When a system repair doesn't work, it is best to do a fresh installation of Windows. Delete the partition, create a new one, and reformat the drive prior to installation of Windows. That will of course cause you to lose all of your files, but that will give you a fresh Windows install and eliminate any software that could have been the cause of the BSOD. You didn't happen to note what the BSOD text hinted at the problem being, did you? The BSOD gives clues as to what is causing the problem. A video or sound card driver could be the problem. Pay attention to the details and you'll get this problem fixed in no time.
