Hey fellas

I have a perfectly legitimate version of Windows XP SP2 that I got with my ERGO laptop. This is an OEM disc, and has already been installed on my laptop. Is there any possibility that I can run and activate this version on my newly built home PC or does the Microsoft EULA forbid it?

Cheers

Pretty sure you'll have to buy anouther one. It might install but I don't think it'll activate. It might, but IDK.

Yep it installs and runs fine until the 30 day activation time period is up. Then I have to activate it. Surely Microsoft isn't this stingy, what's wrong with putting the OS on 2 machines anyway, they can detect if you've copied the dics as you need to give your serial number and if that's on more than one machine then the disc's been copied, but mine's is legiteimate so what's the point in making me buy another copy if I've already paid for the licence on my laptop, surely there's a scheme in place for people with more than one PC, which is to say a lot of folk., Why not just take a note of the user's legitimate Serial number and then issue them a new number for thier other machine?

only one active install per EULA... when you go to activate it, you will likely have to call microsoft to tell 'em your lappie died and ask 'em to override it and... but then your lappie will no longer have access to updates...

If you don't still need your laptop you can call them and have it deactivated on it so you can put it on your new PC.

"The PC Hardware is place for you to discuss hardware involving the PC. Please search or look back a few pages before posting repetitive topics. Important! Asking for Windows keys or circumventing the copy-protect to accommodate multiple installs can lead to a moderation with suspension and the possibility of permanent ban."

He asked for a legit solution, please do not keep hinting at the fact that it can be bypassed... we all know it can, but that is not the point.

Back on topic, OEM disks only work on the one system. You might be able to get a new key through a phone call to microsoft, otherwise you are stuck having to purchase another copy. When you purchase a copy of windows, you are not really paying for the disk... it is really the key. Good luck = )

Cheers Guys. Yes there is a way of activating it, most of us know what it is ,I do but I'm not allowed to mention it here, Response to the guy who hinted at this, yes you do get moderated for even the slightest with of illegal activities. Most of us also know it's illegal, I'll sort it out myself but thank you for everyone's help
