Hey guys,

Im having a couple issues with my build. Everything started up fine, no problems there.. but after I installed windows xp, the OS would freeze during random events. Sometimes it would be 1 min after loading, sometimes 5, and so on.. I was just wondering if any has ran into the same problem before? And if so can I get some help?

Oh, I've also checked my temps and everything is running average.. nothing is running hotter then it should be. Also, on startup, all the IDE and Sata connections are detected.

Specs:
PSU: Corsair 750W PSU (tested to ensure that everything is working properly)
MOBO: EVGA nForce 750I
CPU: Intel Q8200
GPU: EVGA Geforce 9800 GTX
RAM: OCZ Reaper PC2- 8500 DDR2 4GB (2x2GB)
HDD: 250GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 (new), and an older one from my previous pc (which has been cleaned and reformatted)

First, see if it will run proper under safe mode, If your sure this is not hardware related. Running in safe mode will negate most of the driver Issues.

I had that 250GB Seagate harddrive and had very simular issues with it. I would boot up and sometimes it would just freeze up for either a minute or completly where id have to keep rebooting. If you start getting random check disks, even when the system properly shut down before hand, then its the hard drive.

After a lot of pluggin and unplugging... and testing over and over.. I have come to find that both the new Seagate HDD and the new RAM is shot. I will be sending them back next week for replacements. I have put my old 2GB back into it, so the new PC works great for now!

Scratch that. It looked for a while like it worked, but soon after I started to run the computer normally freezing problems have resurfaced again. Any other suggestions?

Perhaps the problem is the hard drive you have in there now, i would have thought it was the seagate since i had the same problem with that

Could be a heat issue. Check in BIOS and see what temp your CPU is running at. If it's hight. Buy yourself a non-stock cpu fan and a tube of silicon paste.

Windows XP comes with a great snap-in called Event Viewer. Anytime there is an error, it will log it and let you reference it at a later time. Start up Event Viewer, and go through the tabs looking for any red "x"s and get the error code/description. Once you have that information, you can research it a bit and see what might be done about resolving said problems.

See, I tried the event viewer already, and according to that thing, besides unplugging a USB drive when I shouldn't have, my computer is running tip-top. None of the freezes show up in the event viewer.
