I just got a computer which used to have CentOS 5 on it. I formatted the hard drive from another computer, and when I boot from the XP installation CD, it says something like 'Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration...' at the top left of the screen for about a second, and then the screen turns black and nothing happens. I've tried this with three different discs and it does the same thing with all of them. Any help would be appreciated.

i experienced that problem with my old PC. i tried installing XP with my Pentium 3 CPU. at the 'Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration..." it blacks out afterwards. it turns out that the video card is extremely old for the XP drivers to handle because it successfully installs after i remove it and replace it with a descent one.

IMO it has something to do with hardware compatibility..

Hm.. I'll try using the built-in graphics then. What's in there right now though is a Radeon X1900XT.

Do try the built in and just replace it with X1900XT when it done installing. though X900XT is much more than a decent video card, XP should install fine with it..

I've taken out everything except for the hard drive and the DVD drive, and it does the same thing. I tried Windows Vista Business and that seems to work fine, unfortunately it's not what I want to install..
