Windows XP is better for gaming, because:

  • All games now can run under Windows XP, Vista has a short list of what it can run.
  • Quake 4 on my XP machine runs 235 frames a second, on Vista I only was able to get 35 frames.
  • XP at idle uses about 125MB, leaving plenty of memory to run games, Vista at idle uses over 500MB.
  • XP has been the standard for over 4 years, Vista still has to use Beta drivers, and cannot work with most hardware.
  • Windows XP is not exclusive to certain games, Vista needs to be purchased to play Halo 2, Shadowrun, and Crysis. Thusly, if I wanted to by something to only play a few games, I'd get a 360.  I wonder if this is their plan all along?

So that's this gamers opinion. Your mileage may vary.

(Your question was Windows vs. Vista, I was assuming you meant Windows XP vs. Windows Vista. You appeared ignorant of the fact that these are both Windows labeled products.)

you only need Vista to play Crysis in DX10. it can run in XP.

I was sort of referring to the DX10 aspect of it, I should have been clearer.

I don't see myself switching to Vista any time soon. There's just so many good games that won't work on Vista. You'd have to look well into the future for enough of the good games to work on vista.

XP is obviously more superior even if you have an 8800 GTX and a Quad-Core.

 lol...

if you have a machine that super Vista is much better for you. It only runs "slower" on slower machines.

I agree. I ran vista for about a month and got tired of the hardware and software incompatabilities. Not to mention it ran a lot slower than my xp did. So, I switched back. I'll try vista again once they iron the bugs out and 3rd party companies pony up with proper support.

Ow, my poor, precious English language! What are you doing to it?

Vista is fine for gaming, as long as you have enough RAM to cope. Having said that, if you dont have a DX10 card, it probably isnt worth getting.

If you have a DX10 card, you should get Vista.

There aren't the problems that people seem to claim. STALKER is the only game that doesn't run properly under Vista, and even it's still playable.
