I just got a D-Link 615 router and can't get it to work. My internet works fine with my modem but as soon as I hooked up the router and installed it the internet stopped working. I called the company and they said that theres something interfering so I called my internet company (DSL) and they couldn't help me either. I think it may be because I have Local Area Connection 2 and I may of uninstalled something ... any ideas ... or should I call the Geek Squad from Best Buy???

Read the manual, i managed to figure this stuff out on my own, if you have to call D-Link. Usually start off by turning everything off, then connect the modem, reset it if you have to, power up the PC then start up the router and connect the modem ---> router-----> PC there should be a quick start guide :? Login to the router and fiddle around with the settings..........turn off WIndows firewall sometimes that caused some problems.

1.in ur router settings change the channel to 1 or 11. the default is 6(sometimes it will say default even though its actually on 6) phones are tuned into channel 6 and cause interference with other wireless devices.

2. make sure ur "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" is set on automatic in your connection properties (change it later to match ur new router after u get connected)

3. make sure u know whether you have a dynamic connection(DSL or Cable), static(special sercvice with special modem) or others, and set it to the one that u have.

4. go to ur router and set factory defaults

5. reset your router by pressing the reset button in the back

6. unplug your modem(only power), then router(only power) wait 7 min or so then plug in your modem wait 2min(seriously wait 2 min) then plug in your router

7. reset network settings in windows

its most likely #1, and #2 if u configured those settings from a previous router. try all of them.

Since you have DSL I assume you have to log on with a username and password in order to access the internet, is this correct? If so, you cant use dhcp, your going to need a static ip in order to use the router. Its been so long since I've had DSL things may have changed since then. Setting your internet protocol will work just for your modem, but once you hook up your router, it is assigning your ip address, not the modem. So, while you just have the modem hooked up and not the router, go into your command prompt and type in ipconfig/all. What your looking for here is your DNS servers, you should have 2 of them. Right them down. Now configure your ip address to a static connection. You can use any ip address, I suggest something like 192.168.0.100 since you have a dlink. Your default gateway will be 192.168.0.1 which is the same as your router ip address. Then put in your dns server addresses. After thats done you will need to go into your router and set it to static as well. I suggest keeping 192,168.0.1 as the router ip address. If you have any problems you may need to contact d-link or your internet provider and have them walk you through it. Dont let your dsl carrier tell you that since it works straight out the modem that they cant help because it BS. They have an obligation to assist customers.

I had DSL back in 2002 with SBC which used to be AT&T but the FCC made it branch off into its own company due to a monopoly but has recently been reacquired by AT&T. I had to sign in to the internet through their browser using a username and password. I couldnt use any other browser but theirs. Which was built by Netscape so it wasnt all that bad. Like I said, its been a long time since I had DSL so things may have changed since then. BTW, I dont see anyone else trying to actually solve the problem. Just a bunch of people pointing out how their own DSL setup. You want some true advice. Dump DSL and get a real broadband through your local cable company. If I have to guess, I think your problem lies with your DNS servers. Also make sure your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, if its not you have a problem with your ip assignment. Or it could be a problem with a ethernet port on the pc, modem or router. Good Luck.

Is your computer hard wired into the router or are you trying to go wireless right now. If its the latter I reccommend hardwiring (ethernet cable) your computer to the router and get that working first before you try messing with the wirless. Was the modem connected to your computer by Ethernet or by USB? If USB I would suggest trying it by ethernet. BTW, I had DSL about a year ago and had to log in through my router.
