Witcher Enhanced Edition install problem? Enter Here.

Hey guys. I could sure use a hand here. I was attempting to download the EE patch from the official website. When I click to download the 1GB file patch, it takes me to another link with the download but everything is in another language. I can still make out that the button means to download, so I download. I also download the language file and it takes me to the same link in a different language, I complete the download. So I try to run the installer and it gives me this prompt:

I have service pack 1 so I dont get what tha means..

They are exe files. I even tried putting them in the same folder and running the installer, but nothing. I find it funny why they dont link us US users to an english texted site. I downloaded the 1.3 patch before hand, and still no avail. What to do?

Had exactly the same problem, I'm guessing neither of us downloaded it right, because it took me just a few minutes to download them all (which is at least 1.5gigs).

I hope we can download it somewhere else, because it doesn't look like it's going to work.

Make a temp folder on your desktop and place them all there. Then run the installer.

Maybe that's your problem.

The problem is that the download is timing out. I just noticed that my files were never complete. I'm sure it's due to the high traffic going through the server. I've used download manager and leechgot to resume the downloads but they instantly time out as well. It's more of a server issue right now. You can keep trying to download and you may get lucky and it wont time out. I'm on download # 9 but it's going slow. There is a chance it will time out, again.

Yeah, I've been trying to get it up and running all morning. The thing is hosted by some obscure Polish server so they probably have no bandwidth.Mr__Peanut

And it's working. I'm at 77% now. It's the exact same file except it doesnt time out like the polish server. You just have to create a username and password and you're on your way.

Fileshack won't let me make an account. They say there sending a link to my email and then it never arrives. And as for Torrents only one seeder has the Patch and he's offline. God damn.Mr__Peanut

Create a free email account at yahoo. For some reason, it wasn't working for my windows live email so I just made a free one at yahoo. It's a bit of a hassle but it worked with that account.

Once the new yahoo email is up and running, hit the refresh button a couple of times.

Update: I just finished downloading the upgrade.exe file at FileShack. I'm downloaded the language file now.

You can also get the enhanced edition from http://games.softpedia.com/progDownload/The-Witcher-Enhanced-Edition-Download-27921.html but I understand you also need a language pack.

You still have to wait a lot for the download to start, but you get everything you need in one file and the download speed is much higher for me there compared to other sources.

I got this game for free by purchasing my graphics card. I'm trying to register the game but I can't find the registration key. Does this mean the EE does not work for OEM versions of the game?LifesonFan2112

The registration key should be on the CD Sleeve. That's how my free copy of STALKER came with my motherboard.

The patch is up on filefront.

Go to the game launcher, click 'Register Game', and follow the instructions on their website.

Now it says : You must be logged in. Please enable coockies in IE.

I am logged in and i think my coockies are enabled...anyway, how can i enable the coockies?

Urgh, now I'm getting an entirely new error. The 'localised' file isn't the same as the one in the setup file, or something...

I'm guessing that the language pack on Fileplanet was the American version, which might explain why the installation isn't working. :(

*Edit* Ah, it seems to be some kind of CRC error. I've got no idea what that means, so I might as well just buy the retail version.

I kept getting corrupted downloads via the Witcher site (thankfully I do understand a bit of Polish) so I gave up and waited until the patch and language file were up on a torrent site. Took about 90 minutes to download.

The install procedure was another matter. I followed the instructions and made sure that the updater.exe and the languagepack.exe were in the same folder and then installed. The installation process took nearly 2 hours.

Tried to run the game and got an error message on start up saying something along the lines of "The Witcher has encountered a serious error type mss32.dll" or something like that. Rebooted the PC, restarted the game and got the same error message.

For some reason, that file name rang a bell so I did a quick search of mss32.dll and found out that it was a file associated with sound. I went into Control Panel and lowered the Hardware Acceleration slider one notch and that solved the problem.

I remember having to do the same thing with a few games back in the late '90s. Ahhhh....memories.

Having said that, I really can't see a lot of difference in the game yet. Some of the textures look sharper but the vaunted new gestures don't impress me much. They seem a little out of sync for some reason and a few are just patently ridiculous. The first time you meet Shawni at the village outside of Vizima, she is supposed to indicate fear and anger yet the goofy little shuffle she does makes here look more like an over-situmlated ritalin kid.

Oh well. Can't beat the price and CD Projekt are showing the kind of developer support that most of the larger production houses would scoff at.

I actually played the original witcher again before playing the EE and i immediately saw a difference. Not in the graphics, in the hand gestures...they are much more realistic imo. And the biggest difference is in the download times-they are realy short now.TA127

I noticed that too. Graphics-wise, it's pretty much the same, but I could have used more of the hand-gesturing. In some dialogue sessions, hand gestures were absent when it should have been there, imo. And I think that the facial expressions are still a bit stiff. Still, it's much better than the original. This game reminds me of Mass Effect combined with a rich adventure game. I'm really loving it.
