I have both Enhanced Editions. (Witcher bought about an year ago, and a couple of minutes left for Witcher 2 to finish downloading. :D )
Anyway, I didn't touch Witcher all this time, and now I wonder, is it worth playing through Witcher before Witcher 2? I started Witcher, actually, but the controls (except for the rhythmic battle system that I liked) felt kinda clunky, especially the way Geralt runs. But from what I've seen of Witcher 2, this is no longer the case. But is the story of Witcher worth playing before Witcher 2? I don't mind combat or any other gameplay factors, mainly. Most important thing for me is the story. So any help on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

Since you got both already, do play TW1 first. The story is good and you will have an even better time with the second game when you know the main characters and get all the small references to the first game.

Yeah, you should play the first one first. The story is really great! I can agree that it had some clunky movement, but i got used to it fairly quick.

Personally, i like TW2 more, but there are definitely things that TW1 does better than 2(again imo).

i liked the atmosphere more, it's darker and moodier, and i think it feels more engaging, largely because of the Soundtrack, which i think it's a lot better 1, not just because the music is better, but because the way it fits with the world and situations, make it truly feel alive and a part of the world, rather than just a part of the game.

It's story is pretty damn good, but that's the real porpuse of the game(to me anyway), it's real porpuse is to immerse you into a dark fantasy world full of political intrigue, and where theres no good or bad, just consecuence.

TW1 is also more of an introduction to the Sapkowski's world, so it's lore richer and works better for people who want to introduce themselves to the universe.

I could go on, but i'll end this here - in conclusion, Yes, you should play TW1 before TW2, you don't have to, but i suggest because TW1 is a great game and worth playing on it's own.

In part one I liked the fact that drinking was central to part one, and that you had more 'romance options' - complete with trophy cards, and the story was a bit longer. However, graphics, art design, and gameplay wise, the witcher 2 is a superior game in my opinion. Both are great... you can just tell that they made the engine from scratch for part 2.

TW1 is pretty bad compared to TW2, but it's still an entertaining game and would be worth your time just for the back story.

I enjoyed The Witcher 1 way more than The Witcher 2.

I think 2 is the better game, but 1 should absolutely be played prior as it is an excellent experience in its own right.

I wouldn't recommend The Witcher to anyone unless you can sit through hours of bad quests for a good story.

Since you already HAVE The Witcher, then yes. Play it first, not only do you get a much better sense of the story, but you can transfer your save to TW2 (though its not as vastly game changing as Mass Effect's save transfers), and you also won't find yourself in a position where you play the better sequel first and end up with a diminished enjoyment of its predecessor because of spoiled plot details or less polished combat or whatever.
