I know that maya 8 requires a workstation computer, but does carrara 5 need to run on a workstation? The reason I ask is because I am trying to accomplish the nearly impossible task of making a computer that can play games and handle 3d modeling. The computer that I am looking at building is in my V signature bellow V.
You'll need better stuff than that. You'll need something like a: - 5000X Chipset Workstation motherboard - Intel Xeon processors two 5100 series processors or two 5300 series processors. - 2GB+ of FB-DDR2-667 RAM - ATX Full Tower with A LOT of airflow (or you can buy an Intel workstation chassis, but they cost tonnes) - 10000RPM HDDs or multiple 7200RPM HDDs in RAID0+1 Workstations cost tonnes.
Just for carrara 5? Its recomended requirements weren't that high. Would my system even be able to handle 3d modeling of the low res type like in games?
What if I replaced the 8800GTS with a Quadro FX 1500? This is for a teenager's creativity not for a company designing the next big video game or movie.
Well, a gaming pc is for playing games and watching videos while a workstation pc has different hardware for modeling 3D graphic and editing video. Workstations use server motherboards and cpus and graphics cards like the FireGL and Quadro FX chips, which are about half as good at gaming as gaming cards at a half or a third of their prices. I am faced with the problem of wanting a computer that will do both, but more for 3D design.
