It seems like the good releases are going to start pouring around the end of October, and with a month to kill I have a few catch up games between which to choose. Main of these being WiC and Mass Effect. I'm kind of leaning towards WiC, just because I've played an RPG and a couple of Shooters lately and it's been a while since I played a good RTS, but I'd like to hear the opinion around here.

Other possibilities: Sins of Solar Empire, Call of Duty 4, or anything I'm forgetting.

Oh, an it's perfectly normal to compare apples and oranges. I like apples more myself.

among all the games you mentioned yourself, I'd say Sins of a Solar Empire.

but if between your most inclined WiC and ME...toss a coin.

World in Conflict all the way man. One of the best RTS games in some time. Most realistic RTS out there. Only game that comes close is Company of Heroes.

I played through both and I much prefered ME over WiC, but Sins of a Solar empire is also pretty sweet.

if you're going to get an rts, i recommend sins over wic; however, mass effect is a wonderful game that should not be missed out.

WiC is NOT one of the best RTS games. It barely qualifies as a Real Time Strategy game. In my time spent with the game, it was just mainly one big zerg rush, with a bit of tactics here and there. Some people like it, but there's a lot of RTS players who don't.

Both are very good, i think it just comes down to you prefference in genre. Do ya like rts or rpg/shooters more?

Honestly you cant go wrong with either, but i enjoy rpgs and shooters a little more then RTS games so i enjoyed Mass Effect a little more then WOC, but id give them both a 9/10

Depends on your opinion. OP, if you love longer RTS games (2-3 hours+) then get Sins. If you prefer shorter, more skirish style RTSes get WiC. Personally, I loved WiC, but thats because I fall into the former catogory with my RTSes.

I guess I just prefer more traditional style RTS games.

Mmm, Mass Effect can be fun if you're looking for an action rpg/shooter. WiC is a great package with an amazing SP and MP.

BTW my pc runs ME like **** (even on the lowst of the lowest), while WiC runs fine at medium/high details.

Sins is good, but it lacks a campaign and the game is far too slow paced for me, even on the fastest settings with 2 enemies in the smallest map.

And DON'T get COD4 unless you only want MP, and even then it's not really worth it...

How's the single player in WiC? Is campaign decent or an afterthought? Looks like WiC is also 10 bucks cheaper at this point.

Mass Effect has a much better singleplayer, but WiC still has an amazing singleplayer for an RTS. WiC is a bit shorter, but it also has multiplayer.

Both are good games in their own right. My main beef with WiC was the that SP campaign felt rather short and the gameplay in SP tend to feel Zerg Rush'ish. It looks great and the presentation and storytelling works very well.

Mass Effect is pretty much your standard BioWare haven't changed too much since KotR' game. It's a new setting, new NPCs and much improved graphics but if you played KotR 1 and 2 / Jade Empire you're probably still going have a nagging sense of having played this story before. Still it's Bioware and if nothing else they tell a great story and tend to do a great job introducing interesting NPC's and plots.

Overall it probably comes down to if you prefer and RPG or RTS.

You also mentioned CoD4 as an alternative. As straight shooters go it's a great game. The campaign is fairly short and very linear, but VERY well presented. It's probably the gmae that (in my experience) comes closest to catching the feeling of a Hollywood action movie. Of course one can then try to decide if thats a good thing. But top notch production value and from what I hear very good MP if thats your thing (It's not really for me so I haven't tried it myself).

Like all Massive Entertainment games, the campaign is the most important part in their games, and this one is awesome, the cutscenes are very good too. The multiplayer is pretty good (I'm not really a fan of it's multiplayer since there is almost no teamwork, that means immediate fail if the enemy team has even the slightest trace of teamwork) but it wasn't made to be excellent, they were aiming to make an awesome campaign.

If you played Ground Control 1 and 2 you'll know what to expect, that is if you liked them, I loved them.

I think you should try out both, tbh. But if you're leaning towards WiC, then just get that, 'cause it's a great rts game. Eventually though, you should try out ME, because (like KotOR 1) it's an excellent RPG (just a pitty there are no player mods for it though :( )

I agree, campagin is quite short. Whereas (as expected) ME's campagin (if it can be called that) is long.

I just wish that some of the extra worlds you can land on had some actual settlements on it :?
