I see its getting good reviews, but so did company of heroes and i felt that was very mediocre...is World in Conflict worth a purchase? I thought C&C3 was cool until i went online and lost to mass tanks 100x in a row =[. I R Bad...i knowTheGreaterForce
I say Yay, but try the demo if you want to be sure.

By good "reviews" i hope you aren't just simply implying the score... I know what editors say in reviews sometimes have certain bias and can be unreliable (it's why I look at various reviews), but i have returned to reviews after playing games and have usually agreed with what was said (this is how I sometimes rate reviewers). They can give you clues. Take this excerpt from the GS review of WiC for example:
"This isn't your standard RTS game, as World in Conflict doesn't follow the familiar model of resource gathering, base building, and swarming armies. Instead, it feels almost like an action game masquerading as a strategy game..."
A lot of other reviews agree on these sentences one way or another. The absence of base building and resource gathering might be worth considering (since CnC 3 had both of these and was "cool"), among others if you read around and even read player reviews. (have to watch out for adjectives like "fun" and "impressive" which are subjective: what i've usually done is see what other reviews the reviewer has written of games I've already played, and compare them to see how good they reviewed it to see if their words will be somewhat reliable in future reviews).
Some other things you might consider is the theme of the game. Does the cold war theme interest you?
That being said, it's hard to recommend WiC when you like CnC 3 over C oH. But on my part, I liked WiC. Some of the reviews have exaggerated some parts but most of them have got it correct: it certainly is action-orientated. At least you won't lose to mass tanks in WiC.

I'd say definitely yay. It's a great fast-paced, action-oriented, team- and objective-based tactical game that has you thinking on your feet to outmaneuver your enemy and have lots of fun doing so. The controls and graphics are also great.
And I have trouble understanding how you could not like Company of Heroes. I'm not even gonna bother trying to argue for it since you'll get like ten other poeple doing that. All I'm gonna say is you're crazy bud.
Get it, I too bought Company of Heroes, and I thought it was a HUGE dissapointment. I played WIC, and it was fantastic. No more creating units, they pop out with a unit transportation, The controls are weird cuz you have to use the WASD to move, but after 15 mins its second nature. There are so many objectives and its really awesome. The action is great but isnt too insane, and the cutscenes are so interesting. Get it, and be happy. No more being trapped and dieing insanely in CoH. Moony101
then dont play strategy games dude!!if u think creating units and building hqs is a bore, then u should just stick to fps or tps..i loved both the games..they were unique in their own sweet ways..and by the way wic also had a lot of create this and create that..and a hell lot of hold this position for 30 mins hold that position for 30 mins...the difference between coh and wic is in coh they give u 15 mins and tell u that the enemy will attack in 15 mins so get ready, these parts in coh always remind me of the last fight in saving private ryan
I never played it, but my dad did and he said it was probably the best RTS of 07'. Though it is quite graphically demanding, and there's no way to scermish other than multiplayer, he said the game had an intensive single player campain. This being I'm still not going to bother with it and just wait for SC2 and red alert 3.
I thought the single player campaign was decent. Not the best thing ever, but certainly one of the better titles to have come out lately (which really isn't saying too much for this genre).
I didn't play much multiplayer, but I'd imagine because of the slight age on this game, that it's not too overpopulated. Whether that's good or bad is up to you...
you thought company of heroes was average??well in that case you should skip world in conflict too..because like company of heroes, world in conflict too is an amazing game..biswajit90210
Ding Ding Ding we have a winner!!!! LOL COH is average??
WiC is much simpler but the graphics are awesome gameplay can be quiet satisfying when playing online with decent players.
You don't have to worry about tank rushes or base building for that matter. But TEAMWORK IS ESSENTIAL. WiC is a great game. Gameplay wise from CoH it is very different.
Just so you know WiC's community = dead.Wasdie
Uhh Wrong buddy its alive and kicking. People usually tend to pack into a few select servers but you can go on at anytime of the day and the servers will be packed, whether they all speak english is another story LOL, see alot of germans and other europeans playing all the time at odd hours :)
Nay, believe me I loved this game, but it gets stale quickly and the community is dead. There even isn't any teamwork, in any game, people just go their own way.ZuluEcho14
Nah man it's all about finding a good server and sticking with it. Once you get to know the people who play on it regularily you'll get the team work. If I find a server with a Support guy using artillery I usually just leave right away.
