Why aren't there games set the a hypothetical WW3 era(USA v. USSR)? That storyline is completely left unused yet it has so much potential. World in Conflict did it and so did Red Alert, but those games are RTS. Where are the FPS games set in this era? Imagine storming NYC as the Soviets, or taking Stalingrad as NATO.

Probably because most people hope it never happens in reality and don't want ot try and guess how the countries would align themselves, It either has to be set fairly far in the future or in an alternate history like WiC. I do thinkn there could be more games in the alternate history genre, that seems to be a new and untapped genre that has some potential for good stories. These games speculate on what could have happened and not what could (still) happen, which people have an easier time thinking about.

You have a great point, but it's probably because they haven't quite done all the possible World War 2 scenarios, like the russians encountering mutants that change their populace like Resistance: Fall of Man, or Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. When they get done with ALL of those, I'm sure WWIII will be next, if it hasn't happened already.

Call of Duty set in 1988 would be pretty sweet. You could switch between USA, defending US soil then counterattacking into Russian. You could be Russia invading the US; just imagine storming the white house, defeating soldiers and secret service! And you could be Canadian, helping the poor ol' US fight back!

Is there any war game featuring Canadians? I can't think of any game of top of my head. And I doubt the existance of Canadians in any FPS/RTS war games.

And thats why I think there should be. God only knows what Canada has buried under all that snow to the north. A Canadian Area-51, perhaps? Exploding hockey pucks, poisonous maple syrup, and snow that burns you instead of freezes you!

Canada isn't like that. I live there and nothing special happens. However a setting in the North of Canada would be interesting. Something like a secret war going on int he North where no one lives or some special secret group building secret weapons. The point is, the North of Canada deserves a game of its own =]

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Not exactly a world war but in Operation Flashpoint there was a roque Soviet general that took a small army with him and decided to invade a few neutral islands because he thought the new Soviet leader was a coward. The roque general invaded the first island and nearby NATO forces responded with an invasion of their own, not knowing that they would face a well prepared Soviet army. It was just like a world war because the Soviets were fighting the NATO in a pretty realistic cold war scenario.

In the story the Soviet Union was denying that this roque general was working on their behalf but ofcourse the Soviet Union was "too busy" to take care of this roque general that was conquering land in the name of mother Russia. If you followed the story you would know that it ALMOST turned into a world war. Especially at the end when the roque general is nearly defeated and as a last desperate attack, he decides to launch nukes at nearby NATO countries. The last mission involves taking out ICBMs. If you fail, world war 3 starts.

Yup. Operation Flashpoint took place in the late 80s and featured a hypothetical conflict between NATO and the USSR. You could also play as a partisan (terrorist/freedom fighter) in the Resistance expansion or as a Soviet soldier in the Red Hammer add-on.

As for playing as a Canuck, you can take on the role of a JTF-2 special forces trooper in one of the Delta Force games from NovaLogic. There's also a mod for Arma and another for OpF which adds in all the weaponry, vehicles and unit insignia for the Candian Forces. The OpF mod adds in late 80s era gear and the ArmA mod is modern day Afghanistan. There are also mods for SWAT 3 and SWAT 4 that let you play as a mustachioed RCMP goon.

Didn't any of you play Frontlines: Fuel of War? It had America vs Russia in it. Well, China and EU were involved too, but still.....

I hate to be a stickler, but that's misstated, it's "Chuck Norris wins, period."
