I think I hate Steam... I tried to play The Scourge Project 1 and 2. I get frustrated because I'm in some facility and I can't find a way out. The enemies are on a counter so they keep coming back and shooting with impeccable aim. I look on the screen and realize there is no map. I had it with that - come back later.

I try to play GTA: SA - another Steam install. It won't start. Steam support is useless. But I've been tryingto get that fixed for a while, no surprise.

I try to play GTAIV - Steam again. Stupid game stops responding at the beginning, right when the car stops at Roman's place. Everything is still going on - just can't get out of the freaking car! I go to steam support - have to sign up for another account just for that. I'm waiting on a useless answer. I try the forums - have to sign in to post. Guess what - I CANT SIGN IN - it keeps saying my user info is invalid. I posted about it here, in the GTAIV forum - no response.

I was going to play Stalker instead, should have followed my first thought. What a sucky game day.

Sounds like problems with the actual games rather than Steam itself.

This, and steam support isnt there to help you with issues with teh game, thats what the games companies support is for, steam support is there to help you with issues regarding steam

Try googling or searching the support forums on steam and the game's own forums, someone else has probably had the same issues you have and their questions already answered.

Well, I thought I did say I tried that - nobody was home. It's funny that a problem with a game I purchased from and downloaded with - and then even installed WITH Steam, TO the SteamApps folder instead of a regular program folder - is not their concern if it doesn't work right. And Rockstar is notorious for not fixing issues with their games, so a lot of help it does to go to them.

You can Google all you want - there will be no fix found for GTA:SA will not work on Windows 7 - try it, I did... you get NOTHING BUT COMPLAINTS and NO SOLUTIONS.

You posted it on the GS GTA4 forums, not on the Rockstar site, or where ever the games official forums are. Steam is a digital distribution site. It is just a medium the developers use to distribute their products. Would you blame EBgames if you had bought the game from them?

Doesnt matter that you used steam, steam doesnt know anything about teh code to the game, for issues with games themselves you need to contact the devs, if it was actually a problem steam was causing you would contact them.

The only thing you mentioned that even sounds like it could remotely be steam related is SA not starting, and thats likely your OS, which has nothing to do with steam but again with rockstar.

I'll say it again just in case, it's not steams responsibility to customer service other peoples games, not that they even could since they didnt make it.

As a general pointer, Steam does not interfere with the game(Unless it is using one of Steamwork's APIs like cloud, multiplayer stuff etc.), it just starts it and stops its activities(network or otherwise). It just makes sure that you are eligible to own the game and start it, if you are steam leaves you on your own.

Go buy a game from Walmart and then try to call their customer service desk for help and see what happens. For a helpful suggestion, I'd try running a diagnostic test on your ram.

I have all the GTA's on the PC downloaded via steam and all of them work in Windows 7 64bit, the only thing I have to do is change the affinity so that they only run on one core of my quadcore (for some reason the mouse does not respond in VC and SA if you have the game running on multiple cores). I didin't need to do anything fancy to get them up and running either. So I am not sure what is going on with other people that can't get gta sa running on their win 7 setup.

At an rate it is a bit much to blame steam for games not working, I have bought one or two games from Impulse and they don't work but I don't blame Impulse. The games the Op listed have problems working no matter how you bought them for a starters GTA SA is an old game using old tech and it is hit and miss as to whether it works on any machine. The less said about GTA 4 the better that is a mess on pretty much every machine regardless of whether you own the retail copy or the steam copy (I have both retail and steam copies of the game).

I hate when people say this and what the OP said, STEAM does not host the servers, in matter of fact the only thing steam related can be VAC and checks if you actually own the game when you join the server.

At OP, So you hate steam because you can't beat some enemies in a game, can't start a game (Did you even try starting the exe for itself?) And you having trouble with a game which seems to be working fine for everyone else.

For GTA SA, try deleting the file "gta_sa set" That worked for me when I was having that problem.

I've been using steam for 6 years now and i've not had a single problem, although from the number of people who talk about it, I feel I may be in the minority!
