I think that works out to be around £175 pounds. I'd expect that card to be £100-110. So I wouldn't personally buy it. YOu must be able to buy it online cheaper somewhere. ALso, crossfiring the 4870 isn't worth it, better off getting a 5850/5870 if you have the money.

True, the HD 4870 should be around the price you suggested, but the TC was asking about his options for the mobility version for a laptop.

The 4870 should do fine running any game out there - obviously some better then others (Crysis coming to mind), but overall it would be a decent GPU to have in a laptop. If you were to get the crossfire version, that's entirely up to you. You'd have a better performance in the more demanding games - it comes down to does the price justify the means for you?

Oh right mobile 4870, in that case, probs around the correct price. Whether its worth it, as long as your playing enough games to justify it. Rather than the occasional sims 3 or pro evolution soccer.

Both are great mobile platforms, but it is going to come down to you on what you want especially for battery life. 1 GPU isn't going to strain as much power as having 2. Me personally I would just go with the 1 since for me more battery is better then more power.

I would personally only go with 1 card, it should be all you need and should play every game out there really well. Also going with 1 card will significantly reduce the heat in that laptop.

Yer. Also the laptop is likely to have resolutions that don't justify the second 4870... unless its got a 1080p screen.

ah ok thanks for the info guys it really cuts the price down alot for me :). I was going to put the 17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 RGB LED (1200p) screen on but if a 17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 (1200p) or even the 17-inch WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 (900p) would be fine ill probably go with one of those

Yeah theres a reason there isnt much crossfire/sli setups for notebooks. Screensize and batterylife kills the value. One 4870 is perty good, just run 1440x900 setup.

Core i7 would be better. Quad vs. dual core.

I've been out of the loop for a while, but isn't an i7 triple channel, not dual?
