Play it through normal first. Most mods don't usually destroy your saves though... i reccommend getting morrowind. I actually spent more time playing that then oblivion jmanwYep, Oblivion is a tiny game compared to all the other Elder Scrolls games... 80 hours if you really take your time.
Dude, the game is SO cheap now that it's worth buying even if you've never played an rpg before. Buying the game of the edition is like 10 bucks, and if you like it you have 500+ hours worth of gaming to keep you busy over intervals in your life.
Truthfully though, they're similar games but it is tough to downgrade from oblivion to morrowind for most people. We're all too used to the fast travel, the horses and the oiled game mechanics. Morrowind is classic rpg though if you like it and get into it.
The best feeling is when you go from a prisoner with sandals to an armored war machine with his own fortress. You go from somebody who can barely run around the continent to somebody who flies around.
Morrowind is a better roleplaying game than Oblivion. The game is not as aesthetically pleasing but if your open minded then you should have a lot of fun.

To help you make up your mind, here is the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Trailer.
i liked oblivion but i hated morrowind mostly for the reason i could never figure out how to start a quest so i just ended up walking around. If anyone could tell me how to start quests it would be greatly appreciated.GmeMaster500
The exact same way you would in Oblivion? There's just no noob arrow pointing you where to go.
Morrowind>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Oblivion
and mods make the game much better. and for people who say it messes the game up, they must have done something wrong. like to fix dirty saves you use wyre mash which i doubt most people here know what it isÂ
Morrowind is more difficult and more hardcore than Oblivion, be warned. You'll probibly want to download a texture replacer, and mabey the Morrowind Graphics Extender mod (which features an Oblivion-view distance option similar to what was shown in the "Morrowind Becomes Oblivion" movie in my profile).
Morrowind's combat is purely stat-based as well. Hits are calculated depending on your weapon skill, as was magic. This could lead to some awkward moments when you see your sword hit a bad guy but the game would just do a "miss" sound. Of course the game was much deeper, as this allowed for a full set of skills and spells that could alter you and your enemie's ability to "miss". Not to mention blocking is automatic, dependant on your skill. Of course, you can find Combat Overhaul mods that "fix" some of these "issues".
Oblivion fixed alot of what Morrowind didnt do so hot in, but it had a much better atmosphere, much deeper lore, more diverse enviornments, ect. It was, in essence, a much better game than Oblivion, just not polished and it had some features that brought it down (like cumbersome combat and virtually no AI in towns, unless you download a mod).
I suggest you get it. Especially if you liked SI, as the devs pretty much went with a more more creative and "Morrowind-inspired" fantasy world with it, that looks similar to Morrowind.
Get the pack that includes Bloodmoon. Werewolves
Finding your way around is harder than Oblivion due to lack of quest indicators pointing you to what to do. I remember getting lost and not being able to complete some of the minor quests due to not being able to find the cave north of the (insert area). Attacking is also stat based but I found the ending better than Oblivion.
Morrowind is an awesome game, however dont compare it to Oblivion. The games are so different it's unbeleivable their in the same series.
Morrowind is stat based, when u start it's easy to get lost and half the time (or more) your skills will fail. Were in oblivion increasing the ability makes u more effective at it (improved sword = higher damgage) in morrowind it does that but also increases ur chance to actually perform the ability.
Monsters dont level with you. At the start it's all to easy to wonder in a cave and get one shotted by something meant to be fought much later in the game. SAVE ALL THE TIME.
Morrowind is less... obvious in what u have to do. The journal is a pain in the a**, saying so generously. Their's no arrow to tell u were to go. Theiving is much harder, picking locks has no easy mini game giving u awesome loot at level 1, abilities can fail wasting soul gems/ingredients, spells can fail draining mana (which doesnt regenerate unless u sleep or take a potion), and so on.
However, Morrowind has more to do however, and if you can pick this game up (prolly take u 5 hoursish to fully get the game) you'll be impressed.
