or is the 8900 comen out soon? whats pisses me off is ati's lack of competition only delays nvidia from releasing new cards. why release the 8900 which will only compete with your own cards. Damn you ATI

the HD2900XT is already out, and is only slightly less powerful than the 8800 GTX in most benchmarks, except when playing in the highest resolutions

people like to sli so they get nvidia plus i dont see too many crossfire motherboards.  i would have got a hd2900xt but i couldnt wait, i had to get something better than my 7600gt.  ati would have had a sale if they were alittle bit more on the ball

Depend on what you're upgrading for. If you're upgrading from an oudated GPU to play the latest games, then I'd say now is a good time. But if you're getting it in anticipation of DX10 games, then maybe it's not advisable (for example, upgrading from a 7900GT, which IMHO is still a great GPU).

If ya got or ganna get a dual-core cpu like 2,4ghz+ and 2gigs of memory then the 8800GTS is a great card if ya ask me the 8600's are weak and the 8800gtx-ultra are 2 expensive, its definatly worth getting.

Nothin definite, perhaps we'll see Nvidia's answer to to AMD/ATI's R650, which will be released by then, but what it looks like is just a die shrink, the next new chip looks to be at Q1 2008. For a 22", the 640 mb is good.

353 I have seen others make that comment and I'm quite confused by it, the benchmarks I have seen show the 2900 fairing better the higher the resolution you pick yet your suggesting the opposite is true!

GURU3D and Tom's hardware support this, did new drivers or something just come out and new tests that I don't know of or what?

My opinion is if you can afford it buy it I think the 8800 will be good for awhile, there is always gonna be something new and faster, I have found myself waiting for the next best thing when I could have already made a purchase and enjoying the fruits of my labor lol
