Would I need a sound card to use my headset?

I just got the Razer Kraken Pro headset because my previous one was poor quality. But my mic is very faded and my friends on Skype can barely hear me, from what I looked up online I believe that the motherboard might not be able to handle the mic quality that it has. Would a sound card be appropriate for this to have my microphone on my headset work properly?

You don't need external sc for using headset, the only thing you need is a 7.1 Sound card if you have actual 7.1 setup, most MOBOs nowdays come with excellent integrated sound cards to support up to 5.1 and the extreme ones even come with 7.1.

If you have issues with your headset you can blame only the company that made them.

At least half of that youtube video is BS if you were wondering.

On topic, you should be able to enable microphone boost somewhere in windows sound settings that will fix it for you.
