Would I possibly like Dragon Age?

So after getting burnt out with online everything lately, I've spent the last couple months catching up with all of those single player games I've bought, and I now remember what I used to love about gaming.

I just finished Mass Effect and I'm nearing the end of Mass Effect 2 (which reminds me of KOTOR alot which isn't a bad thing ). I'm absolutely loving the ME series so I'm curious if Dragon Age is something I might like as well. I've played and enjoyed all of the Elder Scrolls, KOTOR, ME style games and like them all. Is Dragon Age relevant to this game style or is it completely different.

I've heard bad things about DA2, but if I play the first one I'll have to play the 2nd I'm sure.

Thank you for your absolute useless input. You probably don't even know what Dragon Age is. You can thank me later for my report for your spam btw, no need to right now.

You should like Dragon Age then. As far as what style it is, I would say dark fantasy. Kind of like The Witcher, if you have ever played that. The Witcher games are excellent too BTW.

And no, you don't have to play DA2 if you don't want to.

It's a triple AAA rated RPG, what do you think? DA2 isn't that bad either, it's just unfinished and rushed. But the gameplay is stellar.

AAA means nothing to me to be honest. Some of the best games out there hardly get noticed. I hated Halo 2 and beyond, yet one of my all time favorites are Chronicles of Riddick and Star Wars: Republic Commando. AAA only means alot of money, time, and resources went into it, not that it's good.

Thank you, and I do have the Witcher in my backlog yet, want to get to that also as I heard the Witcher 2 is amazing. And yeah I will have to play DA2 lol....it's like an OCD thing that if I watch/play something I need to finish the story unless it's absolute garbage.

I can't play #2 without playing #1 first. Been that way all my life for some stupid reason.

IMO DAO is way way better than Mass Effect, wich i hate.... :P

No, but it is really awesome, the characters are great and you should get the Awakening expansion too, even though it's a bit off....

Trust me, i have the Fine Taste achievement on GS (:P), so you WILL like it, i can assure you!

Well it's meant to be a tactical RPG (pause often and issue commands) , but you must play on nightmare for it to even be somewhat tactical.

I would just go with the Baldurs Gate games though, which are a more complex, deeper experience that you can really sink your teeth into.

Mass Effect is very good. Dragon Age is very inferior to Mass Effect in every way.

The first game was ok. The second game was terrible. Don't buy them, keep playing Mass Effect.

I enjoyed DA:O more than ME, but I thought ME's story was way better. It did remind me a lot of KOTOR.

Real time twitchfests you mean ?

If i want good action, I'll play a real acton game like Dark Souls or Blade of Darkness where ithe gameplay is actually engaging and visceral.

Not these jack of all trades, master of none RPGs.

Both DA games are fine, especially if you get all of the added content. For example, DA: Origins you are level-capped to Level 25 in the main game, but you can import that save into the Awakening expansion, which removes the level cap. There's also the Darkspawn Chronicles, where you get to see what it's like to play as the enemy. DA2 was rushed, but get the added content, it adds new environments and new dialog & banter. There is no level cap as far as I know, I've gotten the character up to Level 29.

Well technically KOTOR, ME, and DA are real time, but with a tactical input because your responsible for party members as well. The pause is necessary to control all aspects of your party, otherwise you'd never attack yourself and be playing an RTS game.

Elder Scrolls, Two Worlds, Gothic etc are pretty much just you the entire time so there's no need for the pause option. Otherwise the combat is similar.

There's really only Real-Time and Turn Based. It's the turn based combat that I don't like. It's what turned me off from WoW and SWTOR. It appears to be real time but it's not. Well that and the fact once combat is engaged distance and LOS mean nothing.

Judging from the RPGs you've liked, I'm pretty sure you'll it.

Dragon Age: Origins is a long high fantasy epic.

Dragon Age II is a long boring piece of crap.

I would say dark fantasy.RossRichard

Hah, that's a laugh. Dragon Age is just a generic high fantasy, no darker than LOTR or DnD

Yes you will like Dragon Age. It has a great story, awesome characters, and the game play is nice. After finishing origins get the expansion pack awakening, then get the DLC witch hunt and after witch hunt import that save file with everything on it to Dragon Age 2 if you want to play it. Dragon Age 2 is not so much a bad game as it is a bad sequel. If the game was released as a second expansion for the first game or just called Dragon Age side story there probably wouldn't be as much hate. Just go into Dragon Age 2 knowing that the story is no where near as epic as Origins and there are going to be recycled dungeons through out the game.

Dragon Age is real-time, as you can set the game not to pause when melee starts. On the PC, Origins gives you a quickbar with 40 slots for attacks, spells, or item use.

Well for me Fallout 3 was real-time. I hardly ever used the pause-target system. That's the one game where it annoyed me, and I felt cheap using it. In that case I will agree it isn't needed and hurts gameplay IMO.

I like the VATS, because it gives it somewhat of a turn based feel. It's not like the FPS mechanics are that good anyway. Again, if i want to play a good FPS, I'll play some OFP, Raven Shield or something like that.

DA:O to me was like playing a single player version of World of Warcraft. I really enjoyed it. The characters and story is really good and well thought out. Its really long too by todays standards, I think it took me about 50 hours to complete. You can skip the DLC, Bioware have always been awful at DLC. Also DA:2 is a POS game, even though I completed it, blindly believing it would get better, it doesn't.
